Just an FYI for VN for those that need to lose weight and for those who need to build muscle. If you don’t consume enough calories to be close to your basal metabolic rate then the first step your body takes is to burn muscle mass for calories and save the body fat because it does that in starvation mode.
If you burn a pound of muscle, it generates only 700 calories. Burn a pound of fat and you get 3,500 calories. In starvation mode, you put as many calories back into the fat cells as possible.
To regain that pound of lost muscle, it takes 3,500 calories to build a pound of muscle. Think about that. Also, your body will not build the muscle as long as you are in starvation mode.

I see many of my patients losing significant weight while on GLP1s. It actually concerns me how they look. All of them have lost a significant amount of muscle mass in addition to the fat loss. So please be careful out there.

Also, if you’re on a GLP1 and you need to have any type of surgical procedure, please hold your GLP1 for 2-3 weeks before the procedure. Your bowel and GI tract is still full of slow motility food. That can significantly increase your surgical risk…

List of GLP-1 meds:
  • Exenatide (Byetta, Bydureon)
  • Liraglutide (Victoza, Saxenda)
  • Semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy)
  • Dulaglutide (Trulicity)
    • Albiglutide (Tanzeum)
    • Tirzepatide (Mounjaro, Zepbound)

12 year, double cask is my go-to; but, ill drink just about anything they put into a bottle. 18 is pretty damn tasty. Enjoy 12 sherry oak, too.

You?
Would have to do the 12yr sherry. Helps mask some of the flavors I hate

Thanks Doc. I see this use growing rampantly of people around me and from what i have read people likely don't realize much of it is at the expense of muscle.

Is da GLP1 Ozempic?

What you think about intermittent fasting? Will it take out my muscles?

GLP-1’s are crazy (not even saying that in a bad way, they’ve just taken over the market). Got HCPs at times using them as first line therapy for T2D over metformin. Anything replacing metformin would’ve been unheard of not long ago.

And right there in between is Highland Park. Well, a bit more to the smoky, peaty side but not as medicinal as Lagavulin or some of those other Islays (although those are great too) and with a great and interesting flavor profile.

Sorry, I can never resist butting into a scotch conversation.
I knew you would be here any second. 😂

Glenallachie, MacAllan, Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Lagavulin.

Y'all gotta stop just making up random nonsense words.

How do you feel about 3 day water fasts?

*I work with a guy 20 years younger than me that fasts once or twice a year. I'm interested in fasting (at least trying to) but I'm 50 and on BP medicine.

I do intermittent fasting, dinner and occasional ensalada. Ive dropped 18.4 lbs since late Apr early May. Its dedication to more of a South Beach/ hybrid high protein diet.

Surprisingly im still not at my goal. I always tell skinny people trying to gain muscle, that sometimes - folks who add muscle stop - the atrophy product isnt always healthy.

Skinny people, it may not look cool when youre young. But, metabolisms slow way down. Your skinniness will pay off😆

Skinny people so be careful what you add, esp the folks at the cross trainings.

I used baking soda, peroxide and dish soap. He still smells horrible.
That was what our research led us to as well. It still took close to a week or more before he smelled right again.

Are you sure it wasn't a possum, posing as a skunk that got your dog?

My wife started using and selling products from a company that focuses on gut health. We've been using those products for two years and have both lost 30-35 lbs and kept it off for the duration, with better digestion, energy and overall health. Also do a 3 day modified fast about twice a year to detox. Not a quick fix but much safer. Not trying to drum up business for her, just saying what has worked for us in our early 60s.
