Hoo boy. Education and critical thinking can be your friends if you let them.
His country, Virginia, had legally seceded. You should look into the reason for that. He was opposed to slavery. He fought to defend Virginia, not slavery. I know that doesn't fit the pop culture narrative but it would behoove anyone to study the man's words and actions before parroting the 'fought for slavery' canard.
Lee wasn't the only one that opposed slavery in the confederate ranks. One other notable was Joseph E. Johnston. He opposed both slavery and secession. However, his loyalty to Virginia outweighed all this.

True and on the homefront many people were defending their farms and families.. the Union was not too kind or pleasant when they came rolling into town, at that point it had little to do with slavery, and the majority of Southerners did not have slaves, they were poor white sharecroppers and it benefited them nada

Rioters Set Confederate Gen. Albert Pike Statue On Fire In 2020 — Now Trump Admin Is Reinstalling It

The National Park Service (NPS) announced Monday it will reinstall and restore a statue of Confederate General Albert Pike, which was vandalized and toppled by rioters in 2020.
“The restoration aligns with federal responsibilities under historic preservation law as well as recent executive orders to beautify the nation’s capital and re-install pre-existing statues,” the NPS said in a statement.

The NPS said this action supports President Donald Trump’s executive orders, “Making the District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful” and “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History.” (RELATED: Socialist Candidate’s Resurfaced Post Showing Him Flipping Off Columbus Statue Sparks Outrage)

The NPS is aiming to complete the restoration by October 2025, according to the statement.

Rioters toppled the statue near Washington, D.C.’s, police headquarters using ropes, and they proceeded to douse the statue with lighter fluid and set it on fire, according to NBC4 Washington.

President Trump asked that it be reinstalled less than a week later during his first term, the outlet reported.

More than 160 Confederate symbols were removed from public spaces in 2020, the New York Times reported, citing the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

No, no, no… @evillawyer gets all tingly thinking about the firebombing of civilians in Atlanta. Wouldn’t want to rob her of such a majestic marker.
Oh nooooooo. Not Dear Sherman.

Like I give a flying eff. You goobers are the one that go weak kneed about bronze casts of war criminals and white supremacists who defended slavery. Sherman committed acts that we now consider war crimes. Take it down. None of us care.

To quote George Carlin: “the owners of this country know the truth: it's called the American Dream, because you have to be asleep to believe it.”
Nonsense.

The American Dream is about generational upward mobility - and it’s alive and well.

The American Dream is not everyone gets their ticket punched to upper-middle class.
Nor is “too many” Billionaires a sign that the promise of the Dream has been dashed.

Not that I’m really tracking how a comment on Liberty segued into this.

If we were to get rid of all Confederate monuments, what would the democrats have to remind them of their heritage?
Nathan Bedford Forest for one would strongly disagree. As a representative of the KKK and Democrat delicate to the 1868 Democrat National Convention, he couldn't possibly foresee the tearing down of such monuments in modern times. Democrats can always visit some of the preserved former slave worked plantations throughout the south to see their ancestors work.

Pete Hegseth Orders Return of Confederate Memorial to Arlington National Cemetery

1754514457345.png
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is committed to rooting out woke, and that includes returning confederate memorials to their rightful places.

In an X post on Tuesday, Hegseth announced the grand return of the Confederate Memorial, commonly known as “Reconciliation Monument.”

The monument was removed in 2023 under former Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during Joe Biden’s presidency.

This move comes months after President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled, “RESTORING TRUTH AND SANITY TO AMERICAN HISTORY.” The order states that Americans, over the last decade, have “witnessed a concerted and widespread effort to rewrite our Nation’s history, replacing objective facts with a distorted narrative driven by ideology rather than truth.”
