The Atlanta Braves - Hello darkness my old friend

Either he is abysmal (likely) or someone at Liberty has him handcuffed
The Dbacks were able to trade Jordan frigging Montgomery, who is out for the year and a FA in 2 months.. There are ZERO excuses for AA not moving Iggy and Ozuna.

DOB mentioned there could be a concern over attendance and overall Battery traffic..... So somehow we're likely to eat LESS money by sitting on the roughly 10 million dollars that we still owe Iggy and Ozuna for the next 2 months? And somehow fans are gonna be super excited to watch a team 15 games below .500 because we didn't trade 2 mediocre players? The math ain't mathing.

It's embarrassing. And honestly it's insulting that AA and these lackey sports writers think we are all stupid enough to buy these ******** excuses.

I would have more respect for AA if he just straight up said that he screwed up and overplayed his hand holding out for a better deal. And in the closing hour everyone had already made the upgrades they were going to make and were no longer interested in the players we had to offer.

Not a shot at you Big Wick, but I think the Liberty Media narrative has infected the Braves fans too much.

Liberty Media sets the payroll. That's it. They've shown repeatedly they don't care how it's used. McGuirk, Schiller, AA, Liberty Media board members have all stated this. They paid $20M last year to take Jarred Kelenic to players that never played. They let Coppy take millions in salary for guys who never suited up for better prospects. They've given buyouts to plenty of players. Liberty Media has never shown they cared how the money is used, as long as it's in the payroll budget. Why would they care if we took the $6M from Iggy and ate the salary? It's already been budgeted. What's the alternative? Keep him and let him pitch? He's getting his money anyways.

It's just a cover for what AA is: A ****** negotiator and narcissistic blowhard who won't admit he is ever wrong. And since he didn't have leverage, instead of saying "You know what? I might not get what I want exactly but this will be better for the team", he pouted he couldn't pull off of the heist of the century for the media to blow him and make a fair deal. Instead, it's easier for his ego to just say "Well you know what, I'll just keep them. I'd rather hurt the future of the organization than admit I might not fleece the other GM in a significant deal", flip off the fanbase and then let the media carry his water with "Well you know, maybe it's Liberty Media". It's disgusting.

Scary Terry is definitely just posturing and paying him huge money longish term probably isn’t a good idea but the Titans have the 4th best odds for where he plays his next snap.

Cam Ward might be one, help the guy out

Yes! Trade him to the Titans! Definitely an AFC team!

I'll say it again...he'd rather be thought of as clever/smart/shrewd than make the "obvious" move that makes the team better. And as much as we like to pick on AA, there are lots of other people in his position (and just in life) that do the same thing. I don't know if it is insecurity or what, but the need to be perceived as the smartest guy in the room is powerful for a lot of people.

The irony though is that when you don't make the aforementioned obvious move, you look stupid.

I think 1) he's gun shy about bigger moves (whether FAs or trades) because of his experience in Toronto and 2) he's let the modest transactions that had big payoffs from 2021 go to his head. #1 is still absolutely no excuse for not moving Ozuna or Iggy though. That makes absolutely zero sense under any circumstance.

Even though the Titans WR situation is hot garbage, trading valuable draft picks and paying WR1 money to a good (not great) soon to be 30 year old WR doesn't seem like a plan I can get behind.

I expect the offense to take a slight step back (and probably be ugly even the first couple of weeks) but I think Detroit can have a pretty awesome defense. Glenn never impressed me and the Lions already seem to be trying new stuff concept wise.

Agreed. And the thing is, he would so much more praise if he just went for it and stopped trying to be the smartest guy in the room. Trying to be the smartest guy in the room is what caused us to lose Freeman for roughly the exact same contract that you ended up offering to Olson. It's what caused AA to think he pulled a slick one with getting Arcia for cheap and then not developing a back up plan at SS when he knew Arrcia had been super mediocre to bad for most of his career. It is what forced the Contreras/Murphy deal where we traded away a better, younger, and cheaper catcher. And trying to be the smartest guy in the room is how you end up signing everyone to a long term extension at the same time and end up in luxury tax hell and you can't make the necessary moves to improve your club.

AJ Preller is not what I call a very smart GM. But by God, he isn't afraid to make the moves he thinks can get his team over the edge. And I gotta respect him for that. Sort of a controlled chaos. AA needs to take notes, because he is about to be out of a job if we have to endure another season of this. And trying to be smarter than everyone else isn't how you're gonna drastically improve this club.
