Your Memphis Grizzlies Basketball Thread III

The NBA or the Grizz cant be this stupid....

Unless you are trying to poison the local market

It’s eerie and the writing is on the wall.

Pera is completely checked out. Silver has no interests with Memphis. The media makes fun of the city, but to be fair the city is hard to defend. The Forum lease negotiations are in a stalemate. And now the Grizz play two overseas games and the home game sacrificed is the MLK game. It’s a big F U from the NBA and the Grizz agreed to it.

We’re 3 1/2 years away, perhaps sooner, from the franchise being ripped away from the city. I don’t think the Grizz relocate to Seattle or Vegas. Silver will approve expansions for those two markets.

I would classify the lease negotiations as more of the Grizzlies not (yet) willing to negotiate in good faith than a stalemate.

To be fair, they got the leverage now with expansion being tabled. Even if the league goes to 32, the state could swoop in and give the Grizzlies a large cut of the tax revenue generated from the renovated Bridgestone. Grizzlies have all of the leverage currently and they know it...

The concern for Memphis is the increase in the value of the team if it moves to Seattle is greater than the relocation fee and the value of FEF.

Probably not the case for Nashville but the state would willingly throw in enough $$$ to Nashville to make it a no brainer...

If Nashville takes the Grizzlies, probably done with the NBA and maybe the state in the long haul. No one cares, I know. The open desire to sink the city and region is tiring.

That’s what I’m thinking.

The Preds and Titans are ranked in the bottom 10 of NFL and NHL team values (22-24). Value of Grizz would go up 10% if they moved to #23 in team value. That's less than relocation fee. Where the math gets muddied is how much of the 1 billion the state is funding for Bridgestone renovations would get funneled to the Grizzlies in a proposed relocation...

The value moving to #15 (Seattle) would be 40%-50% increase in franchise value. That far exceeds relocation fee and value of FEF.

I get it if they move to Seattle. Id hate it but it makes $$$$ sense....

The State of TN providing several hundred million to move the team from one part of the state to another is a bridge too far.....
id prefer Seattle gets an expansion team

unless its the thunder

pelicans wouldn't hurt me too bad either

grizzlies would be sour

trailblazers would be the worst possible way to get the sonics back. longtime rival and after the sonics left, portland embraced sonics fans with open arms
