People are so obsessed with fitting everything into a narrative. We’re dealing with 18-22 year olds that have leverage for the first time in their lives. It’s a giant goat rodeo for everybody.
Agreed.
Additionally, unwanted outcomes don't always mean there are dysfunctional leaders or a conspiracy with circumstances seemingly unique to the UT program. It is entirely possible for the coach to make the right decisions and the other people involved make bad ones.

You’d think the haters would be more mad at the people that keep leaking the information instead of the guy that shares the information. They only seem to get mad at one the people that shares information. It’s so stupid how obsessed some people are with hating Tony.
Lots of folks always want to kill the messenger. The only thing I read about any of the Vol's sports teams is on this forum. That way, I always feel confident I am up to date, in the know and knowledgeable about everything Big Orange. I always cite the Forum when discussing the Vols with friends. They always seem impressed with my takes.

So are we still mad about Basilio sharing actual information that turned out to be true or no?
Still a POS for sharing information that didn’t need to be shared, but hey it’s the TB way. I don’t care if it was all true or not, gives a bad look to the program and TB thrives on crap like that! What else though should we expect from a shock jock like sports guy that just likes to hear his own voice!

I would probably not be a very successful coach!

I would be as generous as possible at the end of the season but make it clear that the agreement was for the entire year. If someone came to negotiate mid-year, I would tell them to take a hike, no exceptions.

IMHO, players need to get what they need during an end-of-season negotiation and then focus on improving their skills and contributing to the team.
Unfortunately, there's nothing to keep a player from seeking adjustments at any time.

Perhaps the House settlement will bring about contracts but then it'll probably lead to collective bargaining with a player's union and then employee status and minor league pro ball.

If we were flush with talent like some programs, we'd have more leverage to negotiate with players. We're not at every position.

I don’t know. That’s why I phrased it as I did.
Exactly. There's not much Heupel can do except recruit like GA or Ohio State for years and years so the malcontents can't leverage how much you need them because someone is right behind them with just as much talent.

We're not there.

Not until Tony ran his mouth and got it all over! Of course UT and their “sports” people suck to begin with, so you think this comes out in Athens or Tuscalooserville! No it doesnt
They have the talent behind a guy like Boo that if he bucks up, he gets to walk.

If we had a 5* sitting waiting behind Boo, this wouldn't be an issue. "That Carter guy left? Oh well, how's your burger?"

Have you ever raised an 18-20 year old son? You are often caught off guard.
Actually, yes. Amazingly made it though those formative years without surprises. Why? Myself and the wife were EXTREMELY proactive in our parenting. I watched parents kid surprised with all kinds of stuff and they all shared one thing in common.

Pew, pew, shoot the messenger. This homer mentality is hilarious.

I suppose many of us weren't as great of a parent as you were. I can't imagine a life where your kids never surprised you with goofy stuff.

That probably means there's a lot you still don't know. My Mom took a house shoe to me when I was married and in my 30s when I told her about an incident from my teens.

In her defense, she didn't have a broom handle handy which was her weapon of choice back in the day. Probably jail time these days for that.

Probably a stupid response..If it's true that some of the Defensive Coach's didn't want Boo back, isn't that a potential animosity or lack of trust issues amongst the Coach's? If that is actually true .

Winning games doesn’t exempt a coach from criticism (maybe if you’re winning at the level of Saban). No offense, but no one needs your permission. We didn’t create the Boo problem or the Nico problem.
Ok, this is obviously a Tony B guy and with the AD being tight lipped, it’s affected the show and income stream and the constant crapping on our coach even with Boo returning, shows they want him gone because the show is more important to Tony than what’s best for the program. Makes sense with it putting or not putting food on his table. I used to like him and read his blog. Had a couple of email conversations with him. But these postings from a few posters recently has shown what seems to me as more of an AGENDA. Who cares if it’s the truth. It was none of our business and doesn’t help the program. Not sure if Boo being back is good or not but Coach has the responsibility and it’s his decision.
