If you want to have a mutiny on your hands by trading away your MVP player then by all means sign your own death certificate but I’m just telling you it’s not happening until at least his last team option year in 2028. Teams don’t willingly trade away MVPs in their prime with multiple years of team control. They may walk in free agency but that’s not the same as trading them away.

Not trying to argue but Arenado, Harper, Soto, and Betts are just a few who fit the bill of superstars being traded in their prime.

Just trying to say it happens. Would I be surprised? A little. Based on your post above, some GM’s felt compelled to offer. AS the old saying goes, where there is smoke, sometimes there is fire.

Just offering a subject for message board chatter on an otherwise boring Saturday morning.

And before anyone brings up Mookie or Miggy, those guys had just signed arbitration tenders prior to their trade and the Red Sox/Marlins wanted to get compensation before they walked in free agency.

Really the only recent or semi-recent MVPs that were traded with multiple years left were Stanton (Jeter did his Yankees a solid) and ARod (another traded involving the Yankees) because the Rangers didn’t want to pay that enormous contract.

We aren’t talking about superstars. We’re talking about MVPs. They are on another level. Arenado and Soto have never won a MVP. Harper walked in free agency and Betts was traded along with David Price after Betts was a season away from free agency and the Dodgers smartly extended him before he could even become a free agent. Acuña isn’t getting traded. It’s laughable that sites like ESPN are even floating the idea of it out there.

I actually liked listening to some of Bill Simmons takes. I come across his stuff on YouTube every now and again.

There were a ton of great writers on that site. It had a broad appeal and a wide footprint across various spectrums of thought. Quite the wildebeest and espn couldn’t exercise control from the top. Had to go…

Sometimes it is best to relinquish some creative control for the betterment of your business. ESPN has lost sight of that. They used to focus on actual sports reporting and sports journalism but now all they care about is hot (and mostly stupid) takes. Now I only watch whenever a game is on. My tv used to be on ESPN 24/7 growing up so it’s pretty sad to see the downfall of what they used to be.

Albies is only on a 7 yr/$35M contract and two club options after this year. Doubt they trade that. Michael Harris still has 5 more years left after this year and two club options in addition to that. Highly likely he gets traded at some point but the return won’t be that good. Probably will just be a salary dump with an average player on an expiring contract in return.
