New York City

Last question. Do you believe he was a communist 5 years ago and has now just moved towards a more extreme version of socialism (not relative to communism but relative to what most believe they’re voting for when they hear socialism)?

Or do you think it was just something that sounds good to say when all your friends are far left or some other reason?
Could be either, without him elaborating it's hard to tell. I just don't see much of a connection to his present-day campaign nor think he can or plans to make NYC communist somehow during his term, or whatever the fear is supposed to be, so I don't read too much into it

How is he going to improve NYC?

How is he going to improve NYC?
Hopefully by helping make things more affordable, in part through libertarian principles of cutting red tape in addition to the socialist things people focus on. Certain things (including groceries) are f***ing expensive here

Through communist promises he will make things affordable? I've seen taxing white people more, rent control, and government grocery stores (LMAO).

You think this will work, eh?

Those can more accurately be described as shifting the property tax burden to more expensive neighborhoods, a rent freeze on rent-controlled apartments which has been done here a few times already, and a pilot program of like 5 grocery stores to compete with the current (again, expensive, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are the "cheap" end) ones.

I don't know if it will work but I'm not surprised his focus on affordability resonated, and he is also a very good speaker

He specifically said, "Richer and whiter neighborhoods". Great divisive language there. Another communist tactic.

I'm sure you'll be going to those grocery stores. I can imagine they'll be 10 times worse than the produce section at an average Walmart. Did you see how he said they'll be paid for?

Every person who runs for office says they'll put more money in your pocket and lower costs.

A good speaker? Good grief. So easily influenced.

I wish he didn't say "whiter" but that whole phrase was under the umbrella of more expensive neighborhoods, which happen to be richer and whiter

If the grocery stores are terrible we can abandon the pilot program, which I think he has already said he's open to doing. Hard to get much worse than what we have now though, especially in areas not near a Trader Joe's

He is objectively a good speaker and that is a pretty reasonable thing to list when explaining why he beat Cuomo in a landslide

He said whiter because he knew it would excite the racist base of the dems in NYC like yourself. You'd rather punish white people than do what's best for you. He knows the numbers and the idiotic white guilt prevalent in dem cities.

It's an idiotic idea to begin with. How was he going to pay for them? I know he said...

You have to pay attention to the content and read between the lines, not just focus on the delivery. You're easily influenced.

He is a polished speaker, clearly.
He has a populist agenda that resonates.

But a tiger seldom changes its stripes.

I don't know or care but I think it is pretty weird for others to suggest his politics are defined by some video from 5 years ago rather than his actual platform that he campaigned on and people voted for
Weird…old videos are in play in politics. I’m old enough to remember Access Hollywood leaking an audio clip 10 years later on a candidate.

That was buried in a hard-to-find policy memo that got highlighted after he won, very few of his voters had probably even seen that before so most of the above is nonsensical

I didn't say him being a good speaker made me like him, I said it is a factor in his victory and his chances in November which is objectively true

Bwwaaaa 🤣 This dude is a clown and a fraud. Bet he will get along well with fauxahontas.

I don't judge him on (or care at all) what he said in 2011
You should as most every politician comes out with platform that they believe can get them elected. Once in office, most politicians evolve that campaign platform. Know what the man/woman stand for throughout their life and not just what they say on the campaign trail. JMO

Hitler was a dynamic public speaker also.

He is from Uganda, man. As implied by my earlier post, I think this looks worse for the NYT than it does for him
You approve of his lying on an application to college but believe the NYT looks worse for reporting it. Liberal privilege said out loud.

Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, identified as "Black or African American" on his 2009 Columbia University application even though he now says he does not consider himself Black, The New York Times reported Thursday.
