Congratulations to Mashack

Happy tmthat his hard work paid off. Most other guys may have transferred out looking for a more offensive role. Barnes valued him so much as a defender and looks like that loyalty paid dividends.

I didn't know if he would get this opportunity, but was hoping to see him get a chance, if even just as a minor role player, in getting a chance to defend some of the best guards in the NBA. Heck, even as a practice player to guard Ja Morant is valuable role.

I met his brother and we talked while waiting for and boarding our flight on the way back from the game in Indy. Extremely nice guy and amazing family. He told me not to assume that Jahmai only plays defense just because that was his role for us. He said there were several NBA teams talking to him and he was confident he would get drafted. I took it as a brothers wishful thinking but man am I happy he proved everyone wrong. Congrats and God Bless Jahmai and his family!

I have no clue as to whether Mashack will be drafted, but I’ve seen a couple of recent articles commenting on how important Alex Caruso is to the Thunder’s chances in the series. Appears there’s an opinion in the NBA of the necessity of having a defensive specialist on your team which fits Mashack’s skill set.
I was hoping this might happen for Mashack and am happy for him. He may well end up with a solid NBA career!

Tony Allen is a perfect comp for him. Hopefully he can keep improving his three point shot and be a solid rotational 3 & D type of player and stick around the league.
Don’t know that Jahmai will ever be an NBA level shooter but neither was Tony. He made a nice career as an elite defender. ( I believe Kobe Bryant said Tony was the defender he dreaded playing against the most.) If anybody meets the criteria for “Grit and Grind”, it’s Jahmai.

I’m a little biased but Tony Allen was the best on ball defender that I’ve ever watched. If Jahmai can be anything like him, he can find a role in the league. The NBA lacks old school defenders.

Obviously excited for the young man, but the odds of him making the actual roster are slim to none. He’ll be a G league guy while he(hopefully) develops some offense to his game.
