Downward spiral compared to when?

I am not a fan of NYC; I'm not even the biggest fan of visiting there. However, NYC is undoubtedly better than it was in the 70s and 80s, and "NYC is dying" is a prediction that has gotten trotted out a lot over the years and it's always been wrong. The violence, drugs, and gang problems of the 70s and 80s were supposed to kill it, 9/11 was supposed to kill it, COVID was supposed to kill it, and it's still there.

Maybe the place is a little more resilient and has more going for it than you think it does. And I say that as someone who isn't a huge fan of the city.

Please understand what i am about to say is not meant in an ugly way:
The only person who cares what you're tired of is you. If you want America haters to not be elected, your job is to defeat them at the ballot box. People with all sorts of ideas can run for office. They should run for office. Test the ideas on the city or state level. If universally better for everyone, those ideas should garner national attention.

Therefore, his points are not valid.

I don't think it's fun to see a city spiral. But people get what they vote for. If the city is spiraling, they need better choices and better leaders.

I hate to say he represents my area. It's representatives of our government like these that cater to the peanut gallery that ruin our politics.

This should be called out. There's plenty of people like these on both sides of the isle and we should call them out when they say and do stupid crap like this.

70s and 80s had difference problems, they didn't have hardware communist leading it as they do today, it's way different now.
