I've scoured the internet- google, twitter, forums, etc....Nothing on how McCoy's recovery process is going or a timeline on return. A little strange to me the lack of reporting on such a high-profile CFB player this season.

Anyone have any insight?

I doubt we hear anything of substance for a while. Once we get to fall camp, we will probably know a little more but because he tore his ACL in the off season, it very likely we do not see him at 100% until Oct.

Kid is a thoroughbred. He won’t start the first game but he’ll play this season

Chuck Webb’s career effectively ended with an ACL in 1990.

We’ve come a long way.

McCoy probably will not play. He is already projected to be first round draft pick. Why would he risk millions of more dollars by competing for the Vols this year. I just don’t see him being completely healthy and he is already making his NIL money this year from the Vols whether he plays or stays on sideline. He will just continue to heal and get ready to go to the NFL combine. Go Vols.

He may want to show potential drafting teams that he is 100% so as not to scare them away. I hate it that he got injured and it wasn't even playing in a game or organized practice. Man, we just can't seem to have nice things can we?

If he is recovered and wants to improve his draft stock he will have to play for the reasons you said and I would bet he wants to play. Sitting out to collect a paycheck would be a bad look for him and a bad decision.

We have no idea if it was a slight tear or a major tear, that I’ve seen referenced. We also have no injury history to go off of as far as his ability to heal (at least that I know of). We have no idea how he and his family (and agent I suppose) view this injury and his future concerning it.

What we do have is a reasonable assumption he’ll get the best surgery, care, and rehab possible as he is the star corner of a blue blood football program. And that if he can play, Tennessee will want him to.

Hoping for the best is he’s ready to go in Mercedes Benz. Planning for the worst is he opts out of this season. We might, know more by end of first week of fall camp. We should, know more by end of fall camp. Given Heupels history managing injuries, we won’t know when he’ll play until the day that he does.

I too am as curious as OP, but that’s probably the reality of it.

A projection isn't a guarantee. It's also probably based on him having a decent year, building on last year.

I don't think teams want to take a chance on someone like that.

Of course, my Titans did a few years ago with Caleb Farley, who was an injury machine. Since then, I think teams are opting to not take risks.

Either way, he's playing.

I tore my ACL on 3/17. I still walk with a limp 2.5 months after reconstruction. I’m a little older, but I wish I had the money and time to recover like athletes do in 2025. We need to hope it’s not rushed. I’m not going back to full sport until some time after I’m cleared.

Don't see any NFL team using a 1st round pick to take a guy who hasn't played a down in 18 months due to a knee injury. Some guys never get back to 100%. Could be wrong.
