Reports that: Israel blew the door off of Iran's political prison. Current Iranian gov't and soldiers are defecting. Iran's king is addressing the nation as though his Democratic government is to take control. Offers current leadership fair trials. Sounds like there's movement for an attempted regime change.

Also of note I believe is the country, Qatar, one of the warmer states to Iran in that area. Less likely to ruffle feathers.

What was in China that made them our main motivation? The Pacific war started because Japan needed resources and we and our allies were blocking them from our SEA colonies, hence the attack on Pearl Harbor. Our objective was Japan and to take the colonies and resources back from Japan.
Was Russia really a big factor in Japan's surrender? The popular story is that Russia moved very late after Japan was done to get territory.
Unless it was very late in the war we wouldn't have been able to put an army in China. We had tried before but were blocked.
We worked with Russian Communists. Would we have had our hands free enough to take sides in the Chinese Civil War and fight the Japanese too?
Growing domestic opposition to the war? I never read about that. I knew quite a few people who lived through it and none mentioned anything like it.

A basic way to explain the setup in a modern take. Tennessee itself could have identified itself as a Baptist state which means it could require all sessions to open with a Baptist orient prayers and teach Baptist doctrine in their public schools. However, it could not tell Kentucky, Alabama, etc. to do this or have any authority over those states. That is at least how I read the original setup. Now Tennessee is governed by its own Constitution which makes it a secular state.

We weren't set up to let women vote either and the Framers argued pretty robustly that the only people who should vote were landowners. So called "Originalists" that are appointed to SCOTUS know much more than most that the intent of the Framers wasn't anywhere near what we have.

Many Congress members also know the intent for the Federal govt was far more limited, as you say, but introduce next to nothing to roll back Federal overreach. Each POTUS treats the office like a little kingdom dropping this executive order and that executive order while Congress nor the Court tries nothing to rein in that overreach.

IF we amended the Constitution, even TRIED to amend the Constitution to once again limit the Federal power, we could move back toward the Originalist intent which is a FAR FAR FAR FAR less intrusive Federal govt and a far richer, more diverse group of states.

Anyway, a long way from Iran but I think America would be so unrecognizable to Jefferson that he'd suggest a second revolution (hint: my name isn't just about The Beatles.)

It wasn't a doctor saying it though, it was a receptionist, and the patient didn't have any heart issues forty years after the receptionist started the warnings.
