Juneteenth

Says more about you than it does me. They took away a centuries old holiday for a decades old holiday that less people celebrate. Cry all you want, the facts are still in your face.

What holiday did they "take away?"

Me crying? You are the one in here full of lamentations. I'm just making fun of you, what on earth did I cry about?

In general I think we have too many holidays. But given the significance of slavery to American history, it’s reasonable
Not arguing, but I submit that July 4th recognizes eventual independence for all Americans, regardless of when it was obtained. Yes, we had a turbulent time with slavery for 80 years after the Constitution was written, but it prevailed then and prevails now.
Yes, it's not unreasonable, but not sure it doesn't serve more as a divisive date reminding everyone to stay in their lanes.

A ton of companies dropped Good Friday to appease Juneteenth. Don’t play dumb.

Lol you’re right. You are, yet again the victim. How do you do it?

No, I genuinely did not understand the grievance.

Never in my life have I heard of somebody getting Good Friday off without using their own PTO, but that's OK. I don't even care. I thought you were mad about the government, but apparently you are mad at the free market because they think a holiday about something that is actually real from our country's history that should be celebrated by everyone is more important than yet another religious holiday that inherently only has meaning to some.

The observance of Juneteenth is only divisive because people are unreasonable. We celebrate great days in this country. If you don't think the emancipation of the slaves is near the top tier of great days in this country, there's a word for you.

This is only divisive because the side that is butthurt is being vocal about **** they should absolutely keep to themselves.

It was born out of the George Floyd stupidity. No one had ever even heard of it before then. It's easy to see why people laugh at it.

Nobody gives a s*** about celebrating whatever and your willful ignorance about how it’s being “celebrated” is of course par for the course with you. Multiple people have told you how it’s so important and inclusive that they replace other important, long standing holidays with this woke bs. Nobody cares if you believe it, it’s the reality of the situation and reality is something you have trouble grasping.

WTH??? How did you get that out of what I posted???

You have some God-awful takes on things, but gracious, sometimes you outdo yourself.

I mean the rhetorical you. Sorry, I did not mean to say that you are even feeling divided about it. You haven't commented on that. I was just meaning the people who have anger about this.

My neighbor seemed a little pissed towards me yesterday when I told him I had to work on Juneteenth.

Really? We gave everyone an option, give up GF and take this and nobody took Juneteenth.
Honestly
I wouldn't complain if it was a paid holiday that my company offers but they don't. He is a UT employee and probably assumes everyone gets it off since he does.

What am I missing? We should all be proud to celebrate the beginning of our country moving away from slavery.
