I saw this recently and I think there's a lot of validity to it. I'm not a WNBA fan but it seems to me that it's turning into a combination of WWE/Jerry Springer/Mud Wrestling

i have a new pet theory:

some bright spark in the WNBA marketing department realized that you just cannot get people to watch or care about women's basketball.

but you can get people to watch women fighting with each other.

so they pivoted to a WWE model complete with random, obviously absurd violence, ongoing beefs and feuds, heroes, heels, the whole panoply of soap-operetic clash and conflict.

and it's working. these videos are everywhere all of a sudden and far more people suddenly have views on it, talk about it, and can name players.

i doubt it really gets legs, but it was a clever idea. someone is getting a fat bonus this year.

What say you all? I must say I saw the highlights on SC last night and I didn't care about the score but I watched it like a trainwreck. I think CC needs to take a little time away from the gym and more time in martial arts training. I wanna see her kick someone's ass

I am a believer that this is being produced and encouraged not unlike the Jerry Springer show. WNBA is a reality TV show now like the Bachelorette or Jerry Spring where the folks behind the scenes are encouraging fights

True. That was deliberate. Defender wasn't reaching for the ball; she cocks her arm and then strikes the face. And the ref saw it. Sorry the stills are so blurry. Someone with HD and the game recorded needs to make a real speed and slow motion edit of the strike to the face.

That needed an ejection and whatever the maximum long-term suspension in the league is. The one who knocked her to the ground needed ejection from the game (only). The game stopped for two of whatever the max technical fouls are.

The league hierarchy is going to get people injured, maybe severely, if this keeps up. A fingernail to the eye might blind someone. Clearly the refs are responsible. But the league is responsible for the refs. One might suppose that the NBA is complicit since iirc they are paying for this league. I don't watch but everytime I've seen a clip somewhere it's a fight. Except for the compliation of the other star missling layups. This is not a fan take. This is just a human being seeing this repeatedly.

It's beginning to look like violence against women is league's preferred version of self-promotion. If someone gets injured badly, I hope they sue the league.

If she did that, the league would fold and I don’t think a single sole would miss it. WNBA is so stupid, CC is their $ ticket. Ratings skyrocket when she plays then 50% less whens she doesn’t. I hope she gets whatever amount of $ she can and then get the hell out.

I think I saw a couple of weeks ago she signed a new deal with a shoe/apparel company
for x amount of years for I think it was for $35M. She's already set for life.
