Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

His father, Kevin, earned All-American honors as a decathlete for UT in 2002. His mother, Sharon (Dickie), was named an AA in both T&F (5000 meters) and cross country.

Thompson ran a 10.59 100m last week at the state meet, finishing 7th but setting a new PR.

First time using a pellet smoker. I think I like it even though it feels like cheating.

You’ll get used to not having to babysit the fire to keep the right temp. Add some wireless temp probes and your conversion to stress free smoking is complete.

And the smoke tube is a needed accessory on a pellet smoker too I believe.

I used my son’s since my BGE is in storage, I’m going to get me one after we move in.

So I changed up my steak grilling this evening. I’ve had this method planed for a while it’s closest to a skillet fried steak with oven finish like a fancy restaurant. Normally I use olive oil but this time I swapped to ghee (clarified butter). Ghee has a 485F smoke point vs low 300’s for EVOO. I added rosemary leaves as usual and I controlled the grill temp at a solid 450F. They turned out amazing and I was able to nail the core meat temp where I wanted.

I’ve got a Traeger but there are several brands that work great. I also added BGE felt sealing tape to the lid and put ceramic blocks under neath to provide a solid heat sink. I use a smoke tube every time since pellets really don’t produce a large amount of smoke.

The Motel 6 ad voice guy is using Motel 6..I guess the light wont be on for you. Cockroaches are relieved.

Here's a good one for you to use with friends and family. Follow the directions and see where you end up!

Think of a whole number between 1 and 9.

Multiply that number by 9.

That should give you a two digit number, add those digits together.

Subtract 5 from that number.

Figure out the corresponding letter of the alphabet for your number, so 1 = A, 2= B, 3= C, 4= D, and so on. Don't tell em what your letter is.

Think of a country whose name begins with that letter.

Next, take the last letter of that country's name and think of an animal whose name begins with that letter.

Take the last letter of that animal's name and think of a fruit .....

Don't tell me! .....

....... .......

But also don't tell me that you are thinking of a kangaroo eating an orange in Denmark.

I admire seeking greatness/perfection at the things we do. Can tell that you and several of the guys here seek that in the meat yall prepare. Not everyone is this way...this desire is what separates craftsmen from tradesmen, amateurs, and average quality achievers in their work. Its where beautiful things come from...whether its a shower I build and tile without any cut pieces, a perfect herringbone symmetry in a hardwood floor inset or brick chimney inset etc. Requires experience, proper planning, calculations and then skill to execute the finished product. It requires attention to tiny details most will never notice and even fewer contemplate. I admire this across all trades, in all hobbies, in art and am especially astounded by it in Gods creation. There is pride to be had, and victory found, even in the mundane with maximum effort and attention to detail. Greatness can be accomplished in nearly anything if it is done at the highest level. I enjoy seeing and hearing of the success you guys have, at whatever you are doing. Enjoy the pictures as well. Even though I personally dont really enjoy food, and my family and I eat everything well done. I am glad that other folks do. Also glad that you folks share your knowledge with the rest of us...so that we may also enjoy the benefits of your attention to detail. Thank you.
