No high profile politician in my lifetime has actively sowed the seeds of fear, discontent and mistrust anywhere close to the extent trump has. He is openly motivated by vengeance, traffics in blatant mistruths and is entirely shameless in self-promotion.

These latest announcements don't really line up with your narrative that they were only targeting "the bad ones" previously. There would be no need to "pause" and pivot from something you imply wasn't happening.
