I got a family in Nashville that is like my real family. I think the Mom has fed me more times than my own Mom has in my adult life. I talked to them yesterday and they are feeling OK. They are legal residents, but live with the reality this can just be taken from them at any time.

I don't believe that she has been a lawful resident for almost 20 years and still has no path to citizenship.

Given all the images of rioting and looting, shouldn’t overkill be the goal?

Riots and looting only occur if rioters feel they have the upper hand.

Does she not have the same path to citizenship as anyone else does? I don't understand why her path is restricted to marriage.

She's probably a dreamer and they have limited opportunities for citizenship but there are paths.

I was just talking to a family member who has a dreamer as a daughter-in-law. According to him, there is a path to residency. She goes back to Mexico and files for dreamer status, and will be let back in with a priority to legal status. Apparently there is a VERY low % chance she will be denied and thus stuck in Mexico, so the family refuses to do it.

So, from what I hear, there is an express lane for dreamers, it's just that some are afraid to do it. (That's all hearsay, by the way.)

The DREAM Act is poorly constructed legislation. The convoluted hoops it takes for Dreamers to gain citizenship is ridiculous.

The Dream Act has never passed, DACA was an Obama EO and yes it is crappy and not well thought out.

It's not her only shot, but it is the only pathway that provides any reasonable certainty that she will attain citizenship. I assume she is trying multiple pathways with no luck, is what she means. These are the primary pathways and I would guess her only options are marriage, employment-based, and lottery, with marriage being the only one that offers any certainty at all.
  • Marriage to a U.S. citizen
  • Employment-based sponsorship (which is extremely competitive and restrictive)
  • Family-based sponsorship (which can take decades depending on the country of origin)
  • Asylum or refugee status
  • Diversity lottery (which is random and limited)
  • Certain special programs (e.g., for veterans or under DACA—but those are also limited)

Once more .... The National Guard would have been more than sufficient to restore order. This is an absurd misuse of 700 United States Marines.

Those rioters burning and destroying public and private property should face lengthy prison time.

With that said showing up at a downtown restaurant with flack jackets armed to the teeth invites/dares that response. It showed the rioters there was no other way of protest.


The whole situation is being handled very poorly by all involved

What if there's no passport? Are the immigration court findings, residence application updates, etc. in that data?
Are we now at fast triage rather than answer in 5 seconds?
