Who cares what flag the people fly? FFS. Though, I don't think it's a big deal that a senator declares an ally like that, I at least get people caring that a congressman or senator would fly another flag, especially if they have a problem with that regime. You really wouldn't be concerned with a senator flying a Chinese flag prominently in his office?

So you raise a good point here and I'll clarify my position. It could depend on the context. If a MoC or Senator espoused Communist doctrine and was known to want to replace the Constitution with Mao's Little Red Book, I might ask askance. Otherwise, I'm probably not going to get upset. Frankly, probably wouldn't even in my hypothetical. Might think they're a moron, but not to the point of being upset with an individual. A group of such members engaged in such displays could change the calculus.

Now, if we are comparing that to people, including any government official who is breaking the law while carrying or under the flag of another nation, we're talking about something totally different in my mind. My tolerance for that behavior and display gets really small.
