Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Because he left it open like that most SEC fans assumed he was talking about Tennessee and started attacking us.

Yep. You want some engagement on Twitter for anything sports related it's a pretty simple formula.

Praise Clark or be critical of Reese

Make any sort of not positive comment about the Vols in any sport really

Bring up Sanders and draft

I don't twitter, but surely MJ/LBJ makes that list.

What really annoys me though... is so many apply the fanbase and how they interact to the teams.

Rick Barnes and his program have always been respectful. The worst I can recall them doing was gator chomping to the crowd after a big win, but that's kind of what every team does that beats Florida.

Tony V is a fiery personality on the field, and he's going to put his team first. But almost every single time I've seen the team react in a negative way it was provoked (except for maybe Drew Gilbert...) and then the Vols became a team directly targeted for their antics by the NCAA and actual rule changes happened to try and eliminate the behavior.

Seems to be dying down, and oddly enough Anthony Edwards has started to get the MJ comparison more and more nowadays (not that he's better but that he's the most like MJ)

But for NBA it seems LBJ is King of engagement...

My favorite memory from the natty last year, besides winning it of course, was when we had Kirby working in the bullpen with that sweet mustache and when they called on him he quickly popped a zyn and came trotting out to “save a horse”, it was that moment I knew we won it 🤣

Whole season had some epic moments, hard to not love the unintentional balk by Combs he laughs about it then a wild pitch scores a guy and with just a 1 run lead in arguably the biggest AB in his entire career he strikes out the tying run on 4 pitches.

Yes, seems to be a "you kicked my dog " reaction every day over a twitter comment.
Some of y’all will understand what I’m about to say, I love the BIG ORANGE and root for UT in every sport, although football is number one.
I was born in 1958 so you can see the era of sports I watched as a kid/young man. I’m a life long St Louis Cardinal fan(thanks grandpa❤️) and I say all that to say this, if Bob Gibson or his era of pitchers were on the mound after Andrew Fischer antics running the bases……the next batter was meat👀 and the next time Andrew came up to bat 🫣💀
Do not miss understand I loved it but I would’ve totally understood “ beaning” the next batter.

Pitchers would still do that nowadays but the rules won’t allow it. You’d get tossed in a heartbeat.

So currently what you’ll occasionally see is a player getting beaned in a series later in the season. Not really an option in college baseball.

I'll just point out it's college, not the MLB. I can't even remember the last time a pitcher hit a batter intentionally in a college game.

I will also remind you (and others) that at the time Fischer cranked that HR after his antics Clark had already been hit by pitch TWICE. And the 2nd one happened just a few bats before Andrew's home run and was when the catcher ran his mouth and pursued Clark as he was going to 1st.

So everything that happened after that HBP with Clark from our guys was a hell of a lot more mild than what it could have been given the era of baseball you're talking about.

No one stormed the field, none of our players charged the mound...instead Manny put one over the fence to score 3, Kilen singles and then Fischer cranked one to the moon to score 2 after the opposing team called a time out AND the coach was yelling slurs at him.

I've noticed now the Managers wait til the game is out of hand on scoreboard , then bring in a Joe KElly type of pitcher and then give him the okay to drill the batter in the rib cage with a fastball.

Frankly, I think the self-policing was more consistent and more effective. It was "mutually assured destruction" in an era where people actually understood the concept and therefore the value of self-control.

Let the players work it out between themselves where it doesn't fester and get out of hand, rather than turning it over to officials and governing bodies who make it political and arbitrary. If players play the game and know they'll be on both the winning and losing side of the equation at different times, let them work out among themselves how much excitement is sportsman-like to display. That seems kinda logical to me.

Maybe not, but I see a wanna be troll. Just my little ole opinion. He’s been on my ignore list from the git because of the crap he spews. Look up his history, plenty of posters have suggested he change his avi and screen name. He’s yet to do it. 101 troll or attention whore, I’m going with both.
I can't imagine what someone gains by being a long-term troll. I love Tennessee sports and enjoy interacting on Volnation, and I still can't always find the time. I don't see the point if it's just to troll. To each their own, I guess.

I never introduced my newest addition. Between football, basketball, softball, and baseball, she's had several games to cheer for.
