I don’t think I would ever know enough to regard an athlete as highly as you seem to hold Chipper Jones here

I didn’t say anything about his personal life but he was one of the best baseball players of all time. That cannot be debated. I also think OJ Simpson was one of the best football players of all time. We’re not talking about role models. We’re talking about athletes and the cream of the crop have earned the right to say whatever they want about the sport they played.

That’s fair, although sometimes the greats of the game are the lunatics with quirky behavior. For example, I was a huge Jordan fan as a kid, and think he is the goat, but also he’s a goofball that has expressed some surprising views about the game of basketball and other players.

You have to be at least a little psychotic and egotistical in order to be the best at what you do. It’s a common trait amongst most of the all-time greats of any sport.
