These men were imprisoned and denied their basic constitutional rights to have legal counsel challenge the validity of their imprisonment, to be presented with charges, to have the government’s charges reviewed by a civilian court, to confront their accusers or to provide a defense in a civilian court of law. All these constitutional rights were denied because the President had suspended the sacred right of habeas corpus, an act that the Constitution had granted solely to Congress and not the Executive.

Trump is more comparable to Andrew Jackson and Dwight Eisenhower than to Lincoln. At the point of a bayonet, Lincoln shut down the legislature in Missouri and ordered new elections. He forced his will on Kentucky. He jailed more than 2,000 dissenters in Maryland. He called for the states to provide 75,000 troops to put down the rebellion. That led Virginia, NC, Tennessee and Arkansas to secede.

Tennessee seceded in protest to President Lincoln's April 15 Proclamation calling forth 75,000 members of state militias to suppress the rebellion. Tennessee provided the second largest number of troops for the Confederacy, and would also provide more southern unionist soldiers for the Union Army than any other state within the Confederacy.

The South lost the war in Tennessee.

Can we do a split-screen comparison of a DDE state of the union and a Trump state of the union? Then try to convince us how similar they are. They are not in the same galaxy in terms of wit, moral fortitude (or direction for that matter), orator, personal/professional accomplishment… it’s almost embarrassing for Trump to compare the two.

Trump is more like Andy Jackson. Trump's path to the White House, was very similar to Jacksons. In addition, Jackson stood up for the forgotten and the little man. He stood against the moneyed interests supporting the deep state. Trump was like Eisenhower, who was the last president to actually remove illegal aliens from this country.

Eisenhower’s administration also presided over the pejoratively-named "Operation Wethack", the mass deportation of up to 1.3 million undocumented Mexicans illegally in California, Arizona and Texas. The operation, which lasted several months, went forward with at least the tacit approval of the Mexican government, labor groups, and Mexican Americans worried that uncontrolled immigration made the lives of legal immigrants more difficult.

Eisenhower had the most effective illegal immigration deportation program in the history of the US. Trump is trying to emulate that effort. The comparison ends there. Ike was a leader through a world war and into the Cold War. Ike knew the importance of international leadership to check Russian hegemony in Europe. Trump doesn't. Trump understands the need to roll back spending and the administrative state, Eisenhower did not.

This is about Lincoln- the most criminal president we ever had. Biden was the second and Obama was the third.

This is a brilliant summation. These three caused the greatest damage to the Republic in terms of the erosion of civil rights. I would also add FDR and LBJ, as causing damage long term damage to economic well-being of this country.
