As does Aiden Bolden, kinda wild to have 3 offers out to kids from the same class and same TN high school, and not in Memphis but Nashville, don’t think I’ve seen that before.
Since Kennedy Chandler have the Vols pursued any Memphis kids since? Seems like the talent is not like it used to be. Several of the Inner-City schools are no longer standing. There was time when nearly every HS had at least one D1 kid. Times have changed.

Bartlett has some young talent and I think Malachi Jordan is out in west TN now. In terms of recently, no. Couldn’t tell you anything about him but Fred Smith at Broarcrest is a four star in 26

The shift I’ve noticed is 30-40 years ago much of the talent was developed on the inner city playgrounds where a lot of poor kids spent their youth. That seems to have transitioned to the better players have a strong family support system with the means to fund their involvement in high level organized AAU type basketball functions where they develop their skills.

I remember 20 years ago when you would look at the top 150 players in the country and Memphis would have 5 or 6 kids on the list every year. I don't think there were any last year. But it is harder to know since so many go to Link Academy or IMG type programs and that is how they are listed. I also agree the shift to high level expensive AAU programs can give suburban type kids a leg up they used to not have.

Curious if anyone knows if switching to Adidas helps/hurts in any recruiting with future recruits. Or to just to early to say. Curious if they have influence on certain athletes.

If it ever mattered, I’d assume it matters less in the NIL era.

Notre Dame football seems to recruit perfectly well with Addidas. Not nearly the impact many fans want to make it out to be.

Cage would be a great nickname for a 6’8 Mashack, on the defensive end.

I’m not calling him a Mashack defensively, but with that kind of wingspan and foot speed to boot, if he’s in on defense he’d be a problem for other teams if he ended up here.

Fred Smith? I’m assuming since he’s at Briarcrest that this kid is in some way related to the FedEx family. That family is a big supporter of the University of Memphis. Interesting situation.

The state as a whole turns out less talent. In the late 80s and 90s, we saw Todd Day, Malcolm Mackey, Penny Hardaway, David Vaughn, Ron Mercer, Tony Delk, CJ Black, Charles Hathaway, Tony Harris, Nikki Arinze, Popeye Jones, Joseph Amonette, Kirk Haston, Brandon Wharton, Ron Slay, Drew Maddux, Marcus Haislip, Marques Maybin…all come out of Tennessee.

The state doesn’t turn out anything close to that now, in spite of a population explosion that has drastically increased the talent production in football.
