This is the answer. Boomsday was incredible. And the start of college football.
Those 4 years in a row of torrential downpours on labor day doomed Boomsday. I went to literally every single one till they canceled it, even when we moved away from Knoxville.
Yep, I remember running in the rain in 2012 and then I left Knoxville for the second time in August of 2013 but I'm pretty sure it poured that year, too.
I think CFB kickoff moving up also was part of the reason as people had more entertainment options all weekend and we're exhausted by Monday night. Boomsday should have been Sunday night and never should have been done away with. Even with rain, that event produced way more money than it cost to hold.
