Have you tried food grade diatomaceous earth? Roaches eat the white food (flour?) and the tiny sharp shells kill them in a few days. Doesn't harm pets, and it has worked well for us.

Rain will wash it away, but we don't get any of that here in NM.

Technically I don't have any roaches yet, just dead ones. I'm trying to do everything I can to make sure they don't spawn and take everything over. It's probably a good idea to put some of that stuff down in case a few do pop up.
