Yes, that was a play where Fischer's inexperience at 1st showed a bit. It was also a play where Curley saved our tails with his awareness on the field, and possibly saved us a number of runs.

Just one of a few times this year Curley in the field has benefitted us. As frustrating as his Sax-like yips have been on his throws this year, Curley has done a lot of little things that have helped us win some games. I see why Tony V. is loyal to him. It might frustrate me at times, but I see it.
Same. Well said. Curley’s baseball IQ is extremely high. I respect CTV having his back “thru hell or high water“.

Lower level coaches are not helping these kids coming up. It’s pretty clear the current crop of players in college and younger MLB have a significant drop off in baseball IQ compared to previous generations. The amount of boneheaded plays we see is beyond frustrating. I used to think it was a lack of focus but now I just think these dudes really don’t know the basic fundamentals of situational baseball because they were never shown.

As an infielder period (doesn’t matter what position), if I see two other infielders running over to be cutoff man and backup cutoff, why the hell would I run over and be a backup to the backup instead of covering what is becoming an occupied base? I remember a play in high school where the third baseman was cutoff on a hit to LF but SS was in La La Land so I had to bust my ass to third base from first base to cover the bag so the runner on 2B couldn’t advance. Sometimes stuff happens but first base is essentially air traffic control. You literally see the entire play in front of you. It’s not that hard.

Here we go......the rant is on.

You are more than welcome to ignore. I’m just tired of people making excuses for “kids” that are about to be drafted as professional players but God forbid we criticize idiotic baseball plays that a 10 year old should know.
There was a pitcher that covered an unmanned third base last night. Great IQ there.

I’ll add that if I were a D1 athlete with professional aspirations I would be making damn sure I know everything about my position. Literally all that dude needs to do is watch film of Keith Hernandez on how to play first base and that will teach you pretty much everything you need to know.
