President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

Trump apparently told the GOP caucus not to touch Medicaid, which is a problem for the most conservative members.

The issue is entirely political. The GOP does not want to cut Medicare because everybody ends up with it and it would kill them even with their base.

But Medicaid is for poor people. Much narrower base. Still, Trump is smart here because the imagery of cutting medical care for poor people is a really, really bad look.
So it's your take that Trump is opposed to a work requirement for able bodied Medicaid recipients? That doesn't sound like him

A Biden administration report said upwards of 15 million people could be on medicaid that aren't supposed to be. This should be a bipartisan issue.

Ok.

But not the point, politically.

Trump wants the BBB to pass, as he instructs. Its his victory. He can't under-deliver on this. And so if to secure the necessary votes in the Senate he has to leave Medicaid alone, that's what he wants to do.

I'm not being critical of him for that, though I get why fiscal hawks would be. I'm just acknowledging the political reality for him and his effort to get the hawks to stand down.

I think he'd prefer they leave that out of THIS bill. Get THIS bill passed for his victory lap and for '26. In his estimation, why give the Dems something to point to, whether its legit or not?

How much is it per "taxpaying citizen"?

I am guessing we are closer to $10-12k+ per federal income tax paying US citizen. Per YEAR! Crazy.

Yep.

But you need to face the reality that there are not enough places to cut to come up with a way to effectively address it.

I think 10 years would be secure, heck 30 would still be a safe bet IMO. I wouldn't give a squirt of piss for anything longer if they even sold them.
you think this gig lasts 10 years? not me. We are just paying back 1.5T per year of some of those low interest 3% notes, remember when the pols said it was a great time to borrow? and borrowin* now to just pay our debt.
Like a freight train and getting exponential.

They need to look at defense. They also need to raise the age of taking SS. It's nuts that SS is available to folks at age 62. Problem is there's about 5 fiscal conservatives in Wash DC and Trump isn't one of them. Rand Paul and Thomas Massey are but there's not enough of them

Owner of Trump’s Qatari Air Force One Linked to Bob Menendez Corruption Scandal

The plane's owner, former Qatari prime minister Hamad bin Jassim al Thani, is known as the 'Thief of Doha' and has a history of Terrorism Financing and shady deals

The owner of the Qatari plane that may soon serve as President Donald Trump’s Air Force One, Qatari royal and former prime minister Hamad bin Jassim al Thani (HBJ), is linked to the bribery case involving former senator Bob Menendez.

HBJ uses jets with tail numbers P4-HBJ and A7-HJJ. The former is the plane set to be handed over to Trump and was pictured in photographs taken when Trump toured the jet in February. The Washington Free Beacon identified both P4-HBJ and A7-HJJ as HBJ’s planes by reviewing flight details and the former Qatari prime minister’s social media posts. Over a period of several years, HBJ and one of the two planes are in the same place.

Yeah. The powers that be will keep stacking the cards until suddenly they all come tumbling down. The crash won't be a slow slide, it will be a freefall.

As a nation we are so totally unwilling to take the steps that would be necessary to reduce the debt that it won't be done. It could be done. But we'd have to cut back so much on our current standard of living to protect the future standard of living. Americans just aren't willing to voluntarily do what it would take.

Taking it at 62, versus 67, cuts the size of the benefit. How many people actually get it that early?

That should pair well with the pardon Trump will probably give Menendez before he has to report to prison on June 6th.

One of the most accurate statements ever made:

That’s why UBI is such a major concern to me. Right now there’s a lot of indirectly voting for money for yourself. UBI makes that far more straightforward and then we all start voting for whoever offers the most

Can't work and make much of anything during that time as it reduces the benefit.
I agree. My plan is to take mine at 70 or so and work till then but I'm in great health and plan to live long after that. On the other hand I know a lot of people who retired in their late 50s/early 60s

Some people are going to lose their minds

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration said Tuesday it will limit approval for seasonal COVID-19 shots to seniors and others at high risk pending more data on everyone else — raising questions about whether some people who want a vaccine this fall will be able to get one.

That's in line with pretty much every other country

You'd be surprised. Quite a few 'cause some analysts will tell you to pocket those 5 yrs, invest it...
If Trump is able to get SSA tax free, I will take it ASAP. If my wife didn't fight me on it I would take it NOW, because... yes... I can do far better taking the money and investing it than I would waiting until later. But keeping the wife happy is more important.

It's amazing that with all that is coming out people are still taking those shots.
