Recruiting Football Talk VIII

All though true, he had his reasons and 1 was because he didn't want to be flashy. So the joke's on you, Larry Bird drove a Ford because he didn't want to show off and you can't get any lower than a 85 ford Escort. 🤣View attachment 743246View attachment 743247View attachment 743245
The Greatest Basketball Player of all Time is Larry Bird

He also had these....View attachment 743248

For when he wanted to show off just a little bit...

I knew you didn't know and were trolling me. I had to look. I was thinking "please Lord, let me find an old pic of Larry Bird sitting in a C10. " 🤣

It was worse than I thought....
Screenshot_20250520_141431_DuckDuckGo.jpgI didn't even want to post it. Im sure he just needed the money. 🤢

I know where you can get a good deal on a Subaru Brat. .
Loved my subaru. Really surprised and saddened about the '08 outback limited 2.5i

Driveshafts, wheel bearings, head gaskets, pil pan leak, CV Boots.

My '95 never had those issues.

Had I just kept it as a daily would have been bueno. But I put 30-50 a year on them.

How I predict the season playing out with above average QB play, but nothing close to elite (similar to last year)

Syracuse - W
ETSU - W
Georgia - L ( will be ranked in the top 10 for this game)
UAB - W
Miss State - W
Arkansas - W
Alabama - L (will be ranked in the top 12 for this game)
Kentucky - W
Oklahoma - W
New Mexico State - W
Florida - L (will be ranked in the top 15 for this game)
Vanderbilt - W

Finish the year 9-3 and ranked 15-20

Nico started one season. HH was on year 4 and 5. I think we can agree that's not a fair way to judge Heupel's decisions.

What else was Heupel supposed to do in these 2 cases? He did bench Milton for Hooker...for almost 2 full years. Milton vs Nico 2023 is pointless in the context of this discussion.

Then it was Nico vs...? in 2024.

I don't get the idea Heupel made mistakes and grasped onto them...if anything, in his short tenure here, he pulled and developed the statistically greatest QB at UT all-time in Hooker (which also makes all of these comparisons really crazy to begin with). Milton was a part of another 9 win team and Nico, a 10 game winner in a 1st year starting role.

Listen...you always want to blow things up into something they simply aren't.

I'm not an idiot. Everything has layers. It's a short tenure, Heupel has made 2 very specific choices at QB that we've actually gotten to see play out. He went after Milton (3 years under Heupel) and he recruited Nico (2 years under Heupel). Neither lived up to the billing while here based on their production. That's not a slight at Heupel's decisions, it's simply pointing out the results of those decisions. Milton was in year 3 when he finally started a full season, Nico was in year 2. They both were given ample time to get ready to take over.

Hooker was on campus before Heupel, so he also didn't pull him. And Hooker hit the ground running, he might be the exception not the rule...but he's the only 2 year starter we've seen for Heupel while at UT so every QB will be compared to him regardless of how experienced or prepared HH was when he took over he still did it in Year 1 under Heupel and that's yet to be replicated by anyone since.

Heupel will be the first person to tell you he made mistakes, if he hadn't then Nico would still be here and we'd be preparing for a potential return to the playoffs.

It's just an observation, if you're going after these physically gifted QBs that look the part and seem to have all the raw talent in the world you gotta be able to develop it. It's High Risk, High Reward. No problem at all with that being the approach, but at least with those 2 QBs we've not seen any High Rewards cause if either of them had played to their ratings/talent we would have likely played for some championships the last 2 years.

The PLAYERS do NOT WANT Adidas. This should be enough reason for ppl to not want the switch

Kids don't like something so we should be against it too??

Yes, let's allow 18-22 year olds to make decisions with far-reaching financial consequences... That works great, just ask Nico!

I don't care what we wear. In an era where athletes are being paid, do you really think the manufacturers brand logo on a jersey is going to have a tangible impact on where a kid goes? People have preferences and that's fine. But this idea that it's going to impact performance either way is laughable.

This could be nothing more than Nike reps getting connections to gin up support in hopes of winning the contract without having to match Adidas' number. Keep in mind that every dollar we help Nike earn is indirectly putting money in Oregon's coffers.

Can Adidas get the orange right? That’s gotta be the first question we ask them. Nike won the hearts of all Tennessee fans by just getting the orange correct and consistent.

15 years of Adidas partnerships and 15 different shades of Orange were used just in football jerseys. That’s not counting football pants, other sports uniforms, fan apparel… etc. None of it was consistent. From the Brown Orange of the 90s, to the highlighter yellow of the 2010s. Adidas was garbage every step of the way.

True Nike pretty much always stayed consistent with the orange, well besides those helmets we don’t speak of that 1 time
