Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The first game of season vs Syracuse should be a example of how season goes. If we struggle and win, it's growing pains but if we struggle and lose it could be a long ass season.

On the other hand blowing the doors off Syracuse will be a promising sight to a good season...
I feel cautiously optimistic. The 2 positions I am most concerned about are wr and qb. I have no doubt we should be able to run the ball, pass protection maybe shakey, defense should be solid tho

Talking heads keep saying 8-4 is Tennessee's win total this year. I just don't see us losing to 4 of these teams even with a shaky QB. Seriously, what 4 teams beat us this year?

We got Georgia, Bama, and the toss ups are Florida, Oklahoma, Kentucky. But I don't see us dropping to OK and Kentucky. Florida and Bama are away games so they may be more difficult.
I’m optimistic but 8-4 is probably realistic. We are not better than last year and we had bama and uf at home. And lost to arky.

If we go 9-3 or better like I hope, who do you think our 3 losses would be to?

Negative. The overall talent level has increased.
I just don’t get it. It’s like people have never followed college football before. You lose good players every year. The concept is to replace them with better players and it looks like we have been doing that.

Go watch highlights of John Mateer, Oklahoma's new QB and you will see how we can lose that game...

Are you sure?

We should be better on OL, definitely better at LB. QB position had more experience and production, albeit in a lower confernce. RB room is talented but those are big shoes to fill so TBD. Better at TE.

As good or better on DL. Better at CB if McCoy gets healthy. Wash at S but Farooq and Beasley could be upgrades.

We have upgraded our talent. It’s college football. Experience moves on and gets replaced. IMO with a few exceptions it’s getting replaced by better talent this year.

It could of course surprise to the upside but that’s my opinion as of now.

Disagree with the bolded.

And you conveniently glossed over the qb/wr rooms.

I'll repeat myself. Please oh please don't let us have scoreless halves like last year. It was utterly painful. It still surprises me a bit to see a Josh Heupel team struggle so much on that side of the ball. I guess the Hooker year biased me.
Not saying we will. But we're very inexperienced on the offensive side of the ball. Especially when it comes to playing together.

He could make them a 10+ win team this year.

Can we hire Wash Sts qb coach? Cam ward. Then John Mateer. Wanna bet their qb this year is gonna be another baller?
He is the OC/Qb coach at Oklahoma now.

But we lost 2 nfl DL, so I'm not optimistic our DL will be as good (though it will be good). Just too many drop offs at too many positions to say well be as good as last year. Especially when everyone on our schedule will be as good or better than last year (except maybe arky).
I think we have a couple more DL destined for the NFL. And they're more experienced this year. My biggest concern on defense is secondary. The health of McCoy and our safety play looms large IMO. If McCoy recovers, our corners should be excellent. The lack of experience, and especially the lack of depth, concerns me at safety.
