Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yep.

The real kicker..... her car was around $70000 and didn't come with a spare tire. They got 12 computers shoved in there but no room for a spare tire.

*I can't stand that car.... it's high dollar euro trash. In 35 years I've bought 3 trucks, 2 cars, 2 motorcycles, and 2 ATVs for myself that might total $70k.
I was thinking about this the other day. I'd rather have an old 93ish F150/250 4x4 for so many reasons compared to the new stuff. . .

$70K on a car is too much. Depreciates in value, and will break. Far often earlier than later. Ive always wanted an old 4X4, unfortunately they hold their value.

I see no way of spending $40K on something that will be a money pit.

Fun fact, Americans on average save less than 20% of earnings. Their debt to income ratio is among the highest in World.

Chinese families save over 50%, on average.

Think about that.

Are we entitled?
Get ya a 98-01 Dodge Ram 1500/2500 or 93-95 Ford. You can get a good deal on Dodge for sure. That generation Ford is starting to go up (if you find a deal, get it). . . Dodge, some less than $5k. Put about $1k into cleaning it up (seats, headliner, massive lope cam, open headers, etc) and drive it til about 500k mi. Then sell it for what you have in it and do it again in 10 years, 😂

The culture here in America is money. People worship it, want to show it off, want to keep up / show they have more than their fellow man.

America prob has top 3 shallowest culture.

That’s one of those rules to live by:

Never go into the grocery store hungry

Never go to the car lot when your wife is dead set on something.

You will get a bad deal every time in the name of “making her happy”
I know. Especially about the going to the grocery store hungry or getting a buggy at Walmart when we just need a couple of things. Both are budget breakers. 🤣

As far as buying a vehicle, that's the 3rd time it's happened to me going car shopping with her. She has zero negotiating skills and blows my approach out of the water. She tells the sales people everything.

*FYI......Harper's will not negotiate on price, so I was trying to wheel and deal with the finance department. I got them to throw in a sweet, stainless steel Tervis they had in the showroom display case. I sure showed them.

I had to kick the habits of my parents, unfortunately after I'd already made unwise financial decisions. Thankfully, I still did it pretty early and paid off my truck several years early. Bought a used car cash for my wife when she needed an upgrade. Sold the boat even though it was paid off.

I have no interest in flaunting. I know if I'm patient and keep working my butt off we will get where we want to be.

If I had one car buying rule, it's never buy German. Holy smoke repair costs are insane. Never again.

Only problem with the constant trading is you always seem to have a car payment. But like you said, if the kids are gone and your career has gone well enough, you can spend extra money on cars. My primary financial goal is to stop working, so every month without a car payment gets me that much closer.

But ya, never ever German.
That's what I told my wife!
