Also, Chaz was a barefoot 6’3 3/4” with a 6’9” wingspan.

One of the fastest players in every agility drill and Mark Sears was the only player to shoot a higher overall % in all shooting drills.
Our S&C program continues to shine with guys testing towards the top every year. Should be a good selling point for our program.

This made me look up the average. Wow, he’s showing out. Wonder how much higher that is than his last year showing, or did he make it this deep b4 coming back.?

So at the G league combine last year he recorded a 36” Max Vertical.

So added about 10lbs and 3” to his vertical coming to UT

Rick Barnes is now just 46 wins behind tying Ray Mears for the most in program history.

Tied for 2nd with Regular Season Conference titles at 2 (Mears had 3)
Tied for 2nd with SEC Tournament titles at 1 (Mauer had 2)
1st for most NCAA Tournament appearances with 7
1st for most Elite Eight Appearances with 2
1st for most Sweet Sixteen Appearances with 4
1st for most 30 win seasons (2)
1st for most 25 win seasons (6)

It's pretty much impossible to argue that he's the best TN coach we've had at this point....I really hope he's got another 50+ wins in him before hanging it up though and hopefully a FF run
I love Barnes and he's solidly #2 here. But if he had the same NCAA field and format this isn't a discussion at all. Mears would have 14 NCAA Ts in a row, and likely some runs deeper in the tournament. Instead, most of his career it was one bid per league and there wasn't seeding, so you may be a top 15 team and then draw a top 15 team in the first round.

There also wasn't always an SEC T, and when there was a tie in the regular season, they always picked Kentucky, no matter what.

True, here’s the thing though.

15 years to get where Mears did, Barnes could surpass him in 12 during a far more diverse & competitive landscape.

I never saw Mears era teams though. I think it’s clear at this point Pearl isn’t in the debate.

Mears played a lot less games than Barnes because there was no SECT most of his career, there was no getting into the NCAA T even with great records, most of his career, there was no playing double digits seeds in the first round for him and you simply played fewer games overall most years. Mears winning percentage here was 71+ percent over 15 years, Barnes is at 68 percent. Back in the Mears era, 20 wins was spectacular. In this era bad teams often with 18-20 games.

Okay, I put Barnes ahead of Mears though. Your list or order is whatever you want it to be. I am not trying to debate or change your mind.

There wasn’t an SECT for his ENTIRE career. Plus he won a national championship at Wittenberg.

Mears put on a show but there was very little TV coverage of the game in his era.

In 12 of his 15 seasons at UT the NCAAT was a one team per conference tournament. In 10 of the 15 years Adolph Rupp was the KY coach.

1A and 1B.

I was thinking there was one at the beginning. Had he been operating under todays NCAAT rules, we'd likely have found a Final Four at some point during his tenure. There were years we finished tied with Kentucky, and beat them but Kentucky got the NCAA bid.

Paused after 1952. It returned in DeVoe’s first year in 1979. 10 teams that year. UT and LSU got double byes while the other 8 had to win two games in two days to reach the semis. TN was the #2 seed and #9 Auburn knocked out #3 Vandy and #7 Georgia before facing TN in the semis. #6 KY beat #1 LSU in the other side of the bracket and faced TN in their 4th game in 4 days. Maybe TN’s best draw ever in a post season tournament.
