They made it to the gold bracket, but kind of laid an egg on Sunday. Playing best 2 out of 3 format, they lost closely in the 3rd set of both matches and finished 11th overall, which really isn't bad considering the talent level of this tournament, which was chock full of national level ability...far and away, the best we've seen all year. This tournament was considered an "open" tournament, meaning there was no designation between club level (National, American, Regional). Probably more than half of the teams there were national-level teams (highest level), so just in terms of ability, we were pretty out of our depth as an average American-level team. Just making it to the gold bracket was really an accomplishment, to be honest.Nice! How'd they do?
Very cool! Awesome to hear that they were competitive on a level like that. I'm sure you're proud! They made it to the gold bracket, but kind of laid an egg on Sunday. The two teams in the finals; Alabama Performance National (Oats's daughter's team) and Innerlight Gold (out of Morristown), are made up of probably 80% girls who will play D1 volleyball at some level. Alabama Performance National, who won it all, has girls already committed to Michigan, Ohio State, Western Carolina. My twins will play in college, but nowhere near that level. It was cool to see that kind of talent up close.
What does Igor do well that makes him appealing to an NBA team? He struggled against College teams most of the season.
Danny White seemed much more open to the idea (read that as "in favor") based on the quotes I saw.
I appreciate open dialogue about these topics, but as you know, frank discussion is not often welcome in some other forums. Even if you keep a rather neutral approach, you're often berated by thise in one side of the issue or the other because you don't toe the company line in agreement with their radical point of view. On the whole, I really do believe this forum is more open-minded to the opposing view unless it is just way off base. I'm open to the idea I may be a bit biased in that regard, though, given that this is where I spend most of my VN time.
My neighbor’s daughter plays travel volleyball. He ran into Peyton the day TN lost to Houston in elite 8.They made it to the gold bracket, but kind of laid an egg on Sunday. I’ve wondered a couple times if maybe that is something Barnes sees as an end goal he’d like to hit before hanging it up, go down as the winningest coach in program history, I could see that.Rick Barnes is now just 46 wins behind tying Ray Mears for the most in program history.
Tied for 2nd with Regular Season Conference titles at 2 (Mears had 3)
Tied for 2nd with SEC Tournament titles at 1 (Mauer had 2)
1st for most NCAA Tournament appearances with 7
1st for most Elite Eight Appearances with 2
1st for most Sweet Sixteen Appearances with 4
1st for most 30 win seasons (2)
1st for most 25 win seasons (6)
It's pretty much impossible to argue that he's the best TN coach we've had at this point....I really hope he's got another 50+ wins in him before hanging it up though and hopefully a FF run
