2025 Transfer Portal Thread

If Miles wants in, it makes a ton of sense to take him. He’s a SG who is a 43% 3 point shooter. That’s exactly what we need. If he wants to drive up the price and play the bidding war game, I understand passing though.

Rice would have been absolutely perfect, but if we add one more shooter, be it Miles, Gainey, or some unknown name, this group will be complete. We're maybe a shooter short of legit Final Four material, and even without one this looks like a really solid group.

It's clear the staff sees something special in Duke Miles
He’s considered a very good defender, like not far off from Mashack level, a 43% 3pt shooter and a really good finisher at the room for a guard, overall he was one of the most efficient guards scoring the ball in the SEC so it’s not hard to see what they like about him and how he would potentially fit and fill a need on the roster.

He’s also stated we were getting Freeman and & McKneely as well as Rice, I wouldn’t necessarily take what he says as the gospel.
He has his sources and I am sure when that wad of cash is waved in front of these kids to entice them to their school - Tenn lost out on all of them.

I hope he doesn't play NIL games and we are able to add him in the mix. If our competition is Georgetown unless they try to overpay him we have a good chance

And they very well might, a lot of these school with no football programs have the extra to throw to hoops. Luckily we aren’t desperate and he’s more of a luxury, up to him on what is most important to him.

If we get Miles, does this hurt Gainey's chances on returning if the 5th year gets passed? Is it one or the other or will both be welcomed?

Both would be welcomed, now how Miles & Abram would feel about a Gainey return idk, but the staff can’t really build it with that concern.

JMO if they pass the 5th year rule all heck would break loose for players trying to come back and the rosters being full and then coaches kicking off committed players to make room. IMO better to pass it for next year

The proposal from house settlement is that any players currently on a roster would be grandfathered in and wouldn’t count towards the 15 if the school has to go over 15 to accommodate them.

Would be curious to see how our roster looks compared to other teams if the rule gets approved.

Not sure we would be top 10. Some of these teams could retain some dang good players.

I mean there is only 1 basketball and games will still only be 40 minutes. If teams want to try and stack rosters to be 15-deep with talent, they can certainly do so. But you still will only really need a solid 8-9 man rotation to compete with any team out there.

not sure about Duke but couldn't Martin and Richard return for Florida and heck even Walter Clayton withdraw from the draft
Well you didn’t mention Florida, you specially mentioned Duke lol…but yes Florida theoretically could return some nice pieces. Of course those guys would have to withdraw from the draft first which doesn’t seem likely to happen.

Who are all these players that haven’t declared for the draft/g-league draft that would make much impact?
I’m also talking about the seniors in the portal as well.

Not sure who’s recruiting who, but some of those guys are ballers. As for the other seniors like Gainey who are waiting around, I don’t have any specific names, but I’m sure teams have guys they could return if it passes.

Question for you guys - if you could have one or the other, would it be Miles or Gainey?

If Miles has a couple of years of eligibility left, he would be my clear choice. Otherwise, a toss up.

Wouldn’t he have 2 years if the rule gets approved for an extra season or is that just for this year?
