BTW, anyone quoting coaches from other teams is using our enemies propaganda against us. Who cares about the lies other coaches spew trying to flip recruits away from UT? Not I.

I respectfully disagree. Success in college doesn't necessarily translate to the NFL by default, which means you can't take away from his success in college simply because of a lack thereof in the NFL. Does that make sense? Hyatt excelled in CJH's system to the degree of a historical performance against Alabama. His success actually implies that Thornton may be even more overrated than we realize, but time will tell. TBH, I hope they both prove us wrong.
I see video highlights of Hyatt burning it up in practice but the Giants never play him. You can’t catch anything if you don’t play. Of course, the giants are a screwed up franchise.

He was the 4th rated rookie wr in 2023. I don't know if this had anything to do with his dropoff in 2024, but he sustained a cracked rib October 20. I have had one of those from the exact same hit. It makes life difficult for a while.

I believe his lack of success points to the offense not translating well for receivers. Now, that may not be entirely true, but Hyatt does not indicate that our offense is good for receivers to get to the next level.

Probably a moot point since the league has this offense solved and Heupel really hasn't been able to counter what the defenses are doing.

Can't hang his hat on 12 personnel forever. Sooner or later Heupel will make a fundamental change in philosophy and hire a real OC or he will get fired.
Sigh...talking about firing CJH at this point is ridiculous.

will help in recruiting. Throwing CJH’s offense under the bus.
Golesh and Burns were sorely missed last couple of years. Tillman and Hyatt became completely different receivers under those guys. People talk about recruiting, and that’s part of it at times, but they weren’t what they became under those two and before they got them as coaches. Neither was our offense or has it been.

As far as Thornton goes, he probably could have left that out… blaming the team is a sign of immaturity. Since he did make it on a team, one has to consider he has his own image and path to protect as he is in the NFL. I won’t hold that against him. If he starts trashing and blaming the Raiders too, then he needs a PR fixing and owes an apology lol.

In all seriousness, I doubt that will happen and believe he will do well. At least he was honest about the things he feels he needs to fix to be a better player. I’ve read that NFL teams want players that communicate their strengths and weaknesses during their interviews. People trash Pete, but the guy knows a thing or two.

Tennessee shouldn’t worry as long as they do the same thing and take their own inventory. Perhaps bring Burns and Golesh back 😂

You asked if the offense was bad. You didn’t ask if we beat Florida and Alabama.
I will take a top 15 ranked offense, wins over bama and Florida however they come, and finishing the season in the playoffs. Beats the heck out of most of the past 20 years.

If Thornton can’t figure out an nfl route tree it is his IQ and not CJH fault.

2022 - Velus Jones - 3rd rd
2023 - Cedric Tillman - 3rd Rd
2023 - Jalin Hyatt - 3rd rd
2025 - Donte Thorton - 4th Rd

At the end of the day, Thorton's ability to be a deep ball threat is what got him drafted. Sure, coaches wondered if he could run other route concepts to elevate his draft grade, but what gave him his value was his straigtline speed down the field. There may not be a complex route tree in Heupel's system, but he does give players an opportunity to showcase their ball skills and their abillity to track the ball and gain yards after the catch. He has turned fringe 7th rd talents into 3rd and 4th rd picks the next year. I think the same could be said for Thorton.

It would also help the WRs draft stock if they would actually catch a very catchable ball when running open in a "simple" offense.

Bingo. People talk about how much money OSU spent on their 2024 team. I talk about how they went and hired Chip Kelly to run their offense. Meanwhile we have a 22YO with no experience running ours. No offense to the young man, but that's a championship mentality vs let's just see what happens (big Ls is what happens against OSU)
