Recruiting Football Talk VIII

That's your opinion. What Wikipedia states isn't the Gospel. Bird and Magic both resurrected the NBA. Do you know before Bird and Magic came into NBA that games were taped delayed that you watched on T.V. ?

You talking about how KM and RP were unknown and lazy. Well Magic team was no better when he came into league same season Bird did. Lakers had a washed up Jamaal Wilkes, Norm Nixon and Mitch Kupchak. Kareem was there but Magic's enthusiasm rejuvenated Abdul-Jabbars career.

Both are icons that relived the NBA and Jordan took it to the next level.
I personally think that Jordan and the "Jordan Rules" wrecked The NBA and I haven't really followed it since the Bird, Magic, Dr J era. I liked it when it was "Fantastic." It's now a commie sport.

Magic came from a basketball powerhouse in Michigan State and Larry Bird was from lowly Indiana State. Larry Bird made everyone better and Magic just had to manage games. Who did more with less talent around him? *see attached screenshot

It's "the greatest basketball player".... in any form.

@Carp . You obviously didn't read the article in the post you replied to. View attachment 740325

I'm very disappointed but not surprised. No articles posted, no player/coach interviews, or research done by any of you, just lazy arguments on all of your parts. "It's MJ because he's got a cool logo" and "It's Magic because I like the Lakers". Boring and lazy and honestly, pathetic. Until someone gives me some concrete evidence stating otherwise, then Larry Bird is the best thing to ever happen to organized basketball.
It certainly is subjective. Comparing Magic at point guard to Jordan at SG and Bird at foward. But no doubt Magic belongs up there. Just amazing the things he would do. I still fondly remember that hook shot over Parish in the finals. Lot's of career awards and no telling where he would have gone had his career not been cut short.

I still enjoy the sport and there are some phenomenal players doing head turning things. But the Bird/Magic era will always be tops for me. Some of that is nostalgia.

I'm not trying to debate back and forth with anyone about it...my top 3 have always been MJ, Bird, Magic; but, the highlighted part just isn't true, my friend.

The year before Magic arrived, the Lakers finished 47-35, and went to Western Conference Semi-Finals. The year before Bird, the Celtics finished 29-53. Bird's rookie year, they won 61 games, with him being the only offseason pickup. It's still the biggest improvement from one year to the next, in NBA history.

Depends...they all make poo.

Yes, they're all old.

I was always a dirt bike guy. Never saw the appeal of street bikes. . . mainly because of some accidents I saw as a kid.

A car backed out of their driveway near Mayflower Road onto Chapman Hwy in South Knoxville, by the duck ponds. . . right into a motorcycle. We drove by the wreck and I saw what looked like the nub of an arm. Read the New Sentinel the next day and the person was decapitated. I was looking at their neck. Never wanted to get on a street bike after that.

Saw another bad one where Magnolia turns into Asheville Hwy. Car pulled out of the grocery store parking lot, right in front of a biker. Clipped him and sent him into a guardrail or a guidewire, cut him in half. The bikers were doing nothing wrong either time.
My youngest turns 4 tomorrow and he has been asking for a dirt bike for 7 months. He wanted Santa to bring him one but we decided against it thinking it was a phase inspired by Blippi or Danny Go videos 😂. Well he hasn't stopped so got him an electric dirt bike for his birthday. Cant wait to see his reaction and if this is going to lead to us spending weekends at race tracks instead of sports fields, courts, and courses. Any recommendations or tips/tricks on dirt bikes & 4 year olds? lol

Not really getting into the Larry Bird debate, but ya know someone that I think gets far too little credit for what he brought to the game of basketball.

Pete Maravich. One player I would love to have seen play in a different era. The 3 point line didn't exist for 9 of his 10 years in the league and most folks that saw him play state had it, he would have scored over 40 points a game for most his career.

My daughter has been watching mtn biking videos on YouTube and now she wants to try it. I'm not ready for the hospital bills if we let her do this lol

Dirt bikes are awesome. Electric is a good way to start without much maintenance. I reccomend a 2-stroke when it's time for gas power. 4 strokes are nice, but there's nothing like a 2-stroke ripping around a field.

We used to go to subdivision with new construction and rode on the dirt mounds they dug out of the basements. Contractors would probably never let kids do that today. . . I probably wouldn't because so many people are "sue-happy" these days.

A man named Carl Keck built all those places, probably didn't hurt that one of us on the dirt bikes was his grandson, 😂

Magic Johnson 1978-79 NCAA Tournament MVP and 1979-80 NBA Championship and MVP of the Finals ONLY ROOKIE ever to win Finals MVP.

Head to head
Beat Bird for National Championship
Beat Bird 2/3 NBA Finals
Has 5 rings compared to Bird's 3
During the 80's both rosters were stacked ....

Speaking of 401k....any of you ever taken a loan out against yours?

On paper I'm not seeing much downside... big chunk to pay for the garage build I wanna do, pay back with interest rate (9.5% or lower) and even the interest is going back into my 401k...

My only gripe is the max period to pay it back appears to be 54 months (why 54 I don't know...I'm curious if it's going by calendar year though).

But it just takes the payment right out of my regular check so not like something I'd even have to setup or remember to do.

9.5% interest seems criminal + any penalties against your 401K. I would annualize any interest gained (certainly more than 9.5%) versus making home improvement.

Can you get out what you put in?

Why not HI loan or even borrow against home?
