It was permitted.
She carried it in an unapproved manner.
Had she carried it as was permitted by the Russian government she would have been arrested for something else.

I’ve carried pharmaceuticals to Russia that are illegal in Russia. I had the proper paperwork and made damn sure I carried it correctly.

Look up the transcripts of her court case. It’s all about how it was carried and not so much about the drug itself.


This is a stupid Fing thing to argue about.

You claim she got a license to bring medical marijuana to Russia. She and lawyers claim she packed it accidentally. Which is it? Why would she get a permit for something she supposedly never intended to take in the first place? Also, everthing I have seen says that she had no permit and she was charged for the drugs themselves and transporting them into the country.

Yes. She was still stupid to have carried an illegal drug into Russia. Also, she had no permit from the Russian government to allow her to carry it into Russia. You may have done so. She didn’t. Both her and her attorneys claimed she packed it accidentally and didn’t even know that it was illegal to have it in Russia.

I expected better on the foreign policy front. I voted for American strength. Not for cowering into isolationism. Given his threats to end funding to Ukraine and mass tariffs, it seems he’s leaning far more isolationist than I anticipated

I’m reading quotes from Griner’s attorney. Yes. She was guilty. She even pleaded guilty. That doesn’t mean that we should abandon an American in a foreign prison because she made a stupid mistake.

I'd imagine the cost to stabilize the structures, bring them up to current building and fire codes, plus resolve some of the larger logistical issues (like needing to either ship potable water from the mainland or install and maintain a desalination plant) far outstrip the cost of building and running a modern facility. Renovations of old buildings like that usually have a decent likelihood of unforeseen challenges that pop up as things progress as well.
