President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

A 13% pull back in 5 days and still trending down after the orange one popped off with his idiotic tariffs. And it only changed direction when he rescinded the broad list of them and rolled back some to 10%. And continued to improve after he started rolling out exemptions.

It was an unforced error and one of the biggest policy blunders in a hundred years.

It was an unforced error no doubt but the economy was nowhere close to suiciding. The stock market is not the economy.

....but Trump crashed the stock markets....

"S&P 500 wipes out Trump tariff losses, marks longest winning streak in 20 years as trade war cools"

I will say it again .... You can't have it both ways.

On Truth Social yesterday, Trump posted a message that said, "This is Biden's stock market, not Trump's," in response to stock market losses on Wednesday from the report of the .3% contraction.

Whose stock market is it? Because per Trump yesterday, it's still Joe Biden's.

The only reason it didn’t implode was because the economy and likewise corporate health were in pretty good shape and able to avoid the hit man assassination attempt. But that could only last for so long and thankfully the hit man was called off before the economy was strained to breaking. Ultimately we’re gonna need to see a couple of more months of data to roll up the whole impact. And I find it absolutely hilarious that the first data on trade showed the imbalance widened after application of the tariffs as everyone was stocking up to avoid the tariffs.

Trump has just a short time to get this train rollin is why he did the shotgun tariff approach..get all negotiations concluded and start breaking ground. If he slow played, it would be easier to reverse,

It was pretty easy to reverse as is. They were rolled back around a week after rolling out?

Talking about getting manufacturers to break ground asap..if Trump procrastinates, then commitments to build go pass his tenure and fail to come to fruition. Just like Apple in his last term. This time they committed by 2028.

I’m totally on board with incentivizing on shoring critical manufacturing capacity. And I’m completely onboard with moving what we don’t bring back out of China to Korea, Vietnam, etc… I’ve said before I’d like to see us move some of this low cost manufacturing into Central America. Give them a reason to stay home and earn money.

Just theorizing why he is using this Blitzkrieg, pun intended, approach. Rightly or wrongly, he has limited time to get this rolling and get things done. He couldn't wait 3 months for an EU deal, then more months for a Japan deal, then more months for xx deal.

nope, Trump was accused a couple weeks ago of crashing the stock market. The left has been wrong on everything...as usual.

the GDP was down but not for bad reasons....consumer spending is strong

"Since Trump's inauguration, the IRS' information technology (IT) budget has been cut by $2 billion without operational disruptions, according to the Treasury Department.

It noted this was achieved through the elimination of wasteful contracts, such as licenses set to auto-renewal but unused.

The IRS is also remaking the leadership of its technical teams by removing staffers without technical expertise and replacing them with engineers. The administration noted that fewer than one in five staffers working on the IRS' IT programs were qualified engineers, whereas the industry standard would typically be 100%.

With a greater emphasis on hiring qualified engineers and putting them in charge of IT projects, the IRS is continuing its work to build a unified application programming interface (API) layer, a project that began over 20 years ago and has cost $4 billion, according to the agency.

The IRS has 12 different APIs that are fragmented and make it difficult for engineers to upgrade IT systems.

Creating the unified API layer will simplify communication between different apps and data sets, which the IRS says will result in a more seamless interface for taxpayers and internal teams while also making the development process for future products and services more efficient."

From what I’ve read Lutnick seems to be the focal point for the idiotic tariffs. If that is correct he should enjoy his time in the sunshine now because I’d guess he won’t get an invite to a speaking gig at a Kindergarten bring your parents to school day after his time in the admin. But he’s a billionaire so I’m guessing he will be ok. If we don’t see the tariffs rolled back out after this 90 day reprieve (🤞) I’d guess Lutnick will quietly leave his commerce secretary post at a later time. We shall see.

The ~$2T American Rescue Plan is the one I was referring to.

Way too much garbage was passed in 2020. While I wouldnt have loved it, a much more targeted fiscal response was the way to go.

2021 was stupid as hell to keep passing stuff...

That's not the point, Short Bus.

.... and a contraction in the economy is not good, and it had everything to do with Trump's tariffs. It caused a flood of imports to beat the tariffs. Consumer spending is artificially high, because consumers are anticipating higher prices in the near future because of Trump's tariffs. So, they are spending more now, in order to beat those high prices.

Each administration takes credit for the good news and blames the last administration for bad news. Nothing new.

Would like to see the non-politicians just admit the obvious about Trump, which is that he keeps changing his mind seemingly with no actual plan behind it.

I will say, he has felt the heat for the debacle of the tariff announcement. Enough industry folks have explained to him why he's wrong. While he won't admit it, it seems obvious he listened and is correcting course. Not ideal but it's better than being totally stubborn about it.

To blame your predecessor for a stock market decline on Wednesday, but then take credit for a stock market recovery on Friday would be extreme .... even for Trump. That would not be normal. No.

Oh, he's full of crap. As usual. I just meant it's par for the course.

Trump was asked about a millionaire tax and he said it would be too disruptive. That's the reason?

How is it possible that such a smart business man can't come up with a better explanation than that? How is it possible that his explanation is the most hypocritical one he could've possibly come up with?

It's almost like "disruptive" tariff talk seaped into his brain and it's the only thing he could come up with on the spot, because we elected a senile idiot.

It's unfathomable that this is where we are.

His exact words were that some of them would move out of the country
