Trade Wars and Tariffs

It is widespread in a lot of industries. The reason that I point out Procurement is that you can see that. Granted, some of it could even go back 20+ years.

I have pointed example after example of all the major Automotive Companies struggling the last year and doing layoffs. Whether you look at BMW, Ford, GM, Nissan, Honda, Stellantis, etc. They all ran layoffs. Look all over Nashville area right now. Dollar General, Nissan, Bridgestone, Brooksdale, Phillips, Electrolux, etc. The only local company that I have heard is doing someone alright is Schneider Electric. All of them have reduced staffing, closed sites, freezed hiring, etc. These actions were occurring even before Trump was elected (I also don't think it is fair to blame Biden for all of this as this decline has been occurring for over 20+ years).

You can't compete against $ 5 per hour workers.

You idiots don't realize that if this continues, we will have to drop minimal wage out of necessity. Service Industry will go next and it is already in decline because young people don't have money to actual buy products (or houses, cars, etc.). There has been some change in Corporate philosophy towards more localization of supply, even at higher costs, for efficiency (they call it Sustainability) but it isn't a lot.

Also, I love how you point out 1960s. Go to Detroit in 1960s or Akron (Tire City) and compare with the modern era.

Frankly, the big moment that everything started to go downhill for USA was when Nixon visited China and opened them up.

I’ve always opposed minimum wage. Idk how you can be this ignorant unless it is intentional.

You realize jobs have been increasing and so has the standard of living, right? Neither are down.

Yes, Detroit is worse today than 1960. So is Harlan, Kentucky.

We should not harm the 99.9% of people in this country to improve the lives of a small number who refuse to relocate for better opportunities. That’s the insanity you’re supporting

There is no made in the usa alternative for most items. There is also no way to get manufacturing in place before the shortages hit from this ridiculous and ignorant tariff back and forth. The same things were said during covid and nothing changed. Americans don't want to and it will cost them
I agree. Let's get rid of the tariffs and get on with being owned by Beijing.

All other things being equal, sure. Overpaying (and/or opting for an inferior product) is just foolish and irresponsible, but do what you like with your own money.

If US businesses can't stand on their own merit, that's on them. Relying on the government to intercede and artificially control the market sounds oddly like the opening movements toward a planned/command economy (i.e. not a good thing).
That is a very globalist sentiment.

I couldn’t imagine a more insane way of intentionally misreading data.

They’re buying more, not because they foresee increased demand in the future, but rather because they realize it’ll be cheaper to do so now than later due to the tariffs
Long lead times from the Far East area another factor. Actually it's a major factor

It's not either/or. It should be done in moderation with a few countries. International trade negotiation technique is entirely different than real estate negotiation technique.
China’s economic woes are well documented. I get the feeling that going all in on them is a “kick a man when he’s down” type thing.

How so?
They have been experiencing economic issues over the last several years.

Because we are not just cutting off China. We are cutting off the entire world at once which is driving everyone else closer to China.

Countries are making new trade agreements with China because of our insane actions

Based on the fact that the chicoms subjected the world to COVID, everyone around the globe should tariff the hell out of those commie bastards.

Yes. We should make efforts against China and Russia. But if you’re going to do that, you need allies.

We are going after China, our allies, and the rest of the world at the same time. It’s ignorant

I've already noticed some shortages at major retailers. It will be worse end of May into early June. It's one reason why some companies have quickly purchased more than usual

I think JN Shapiro in LA, RGM in Lancaster Pa, and Cameron Weiss in Nashville all have a line of American made watches, but that is about it. There are a number of companies that make new pieces out of old movements and dials, but three above manufacture.

US standards for “Made in America” are far more stringent than those for “Swiss Made.”

As if it weren’t bad enough the Swiss stole from Waltham in the late 1890’s and then pummeled American brands when they stayed neutral during WW II while American factories all converted to the war effort.
Those dont actually look bad. I looked for American made watches before I started buying pretty much only Omega, but I didnt really see anything. RGM has some decent looking dress watches but most are a bit on the small side for me.

Why opt for any combination of carbon tax/elevated corporate tax/higher tariffs? Is the only differentiator between "hooray"/"boo" the letter next to the dimwits proposing them? And hell, while we're at it, what are Republican Congresscritters doing pushing a Federal vehicle registration fee (which is essentially another tax)?
They've dropped the registration fee but now want a $250 annual fee on EVs 'for road repairs'. That's some serious Federal overreach. Let states collect what vehicle fees they see fit.

The RGM Pennsylvania series is 43mm or so and features their 801 series movement and some enamel dials. They claim to be “American made.” Not cheap.

As for your Speedy, that is a beautiful Racing dial. It lean towards the black for the traditional 3-register chronos, but that burst-grey looks fantastic on the two register and seems to really catch the light . And, naturally, I am a fan of anything with Orange accents.

Wear it in good health,

Long term planning? Who did that?
most of the large businesses and investors who actually build stuff. I have heard it from multiple clients that they aren't doing more because of the uncertainty. specifically the uncertainty of what Trump is going to do. and its most of them waiting on him to do the opposite of what he is currently doing.

they don't want to invest in the current pre-tariff economy, not because of the looming tariffs, but because they believe the post-tariff economy will be an even better opportunity and want to have money on hand for that. and they think it will be a quick enough turn around to make it worth the wait.
