Trade Wars and Tariffs

It's you that should do his fact checking. This dispute over dairy imports has been going on since early in the Biden administration and it's not only the US that has been complaining about Canada's protectionist policies coving their dairy industry. New Zealand has been in a trade dispute with Canada for several years over the same issues.

Explainer: Spilt milk? Why are the US and Canada fighting over dairy?

Another thing you should fact check, is standards for raw dairy products in the US vs Canada. There is minimal difference, ours actually might be a tad stricter.
So they're essentially subsidizing their farmers. Does the us not do the same?

I'm unsure how using artificial growth hormones is better but I'm open. Guess it's the opposite of the left wanting puberty blockers?

The only growth hormone allowed in US dairy production is rBST which is a naturally occurring hormone and only about 10-15% of US herds use it. The largest dairy co-op in the US DFA does not allow it's producers to use growth hormones and many US retailers will not sell dairy products from co-ops/processors that allow it in their supply chain.

We do not subsidize dairy to anywhere close the level Canada does their domestic producers.

This mf just lies to lie, and people believe him. Everything is bad because of Biden. Everything is bad because of Obama. A person that never accepts any blame or fault, is a bad leader. The GOP has tricked an entire segment of the population to hate other poor and middle class people. They've used hatred to install classism. Minimum wage hasn't changed in how many years? Healthcare is unaffordable. But let's hate those that don't have much, because somehow it is their fault.

You stated that I was wrong. The burden of proof would be on you, correct?

Any dairy product imported into Canada must meet their standards which are not much different than ours. It's not a matter of want and that is where your original post was 100% false.

LOL. This board is jacked up.
(titansandvolsfan's post hog said was wrong wasn't included in the qutoes. Can't edit it in). I tried, but I didn't do it right.
Part of that is because they have different standards regarding dairy and food. The US has ****** food quality standards. Some countries don't want our beef. Canada doesn't want our dairy. Other countries don't want our poultry.

You're wrong.

Be my guest and show me where I'm wrong.

That's literally what I said. If they have different standards from the US regarding Dairy, they don't want it if it doesn't meet their standards. Do you disagree just to disagree?

What does that have to do with the discussion we were having about Canada's protectionist policies?

We do that same thing to our trade partners. From what I can tell, almost all developed countries enforce quotas on dairy imports. There's a very sound and logical reason for that.

I'm not sure that the quota has anything to do with standards. Canada imports over a billion dollars of dairy from the US on an annual basis.

To import milk into Canada it has to have a somatic cell count of 400k cell/ml we allow up to 750k cells/ml the average in the US is under 200k cells/ml, Canada's dairy's average higher. The US does allow growth hormone while Canada does not but less than 15% of US dairy's use growth hormones and the largest US Dairy Co-op bans it completely so YES our dairy products imported into Canada meets Canadian standards.

Yes but do we put barriers up to prevent our trade partners from meeting their allowable quota? That is the discussion.

New Zealand has been complaining about the same issues with dairy imports into Canada as the US has and it's been going on since 2022. It's not a new thing, the Biden administration had filed complaints with Canada over the way they prevent US producers from importing the full quota. It's not a new thing.
