VITELLO.........................................IS AT HOME. WHERE IN THE NAME OF GOD ALMIGHTY WOULD HE BETTER HIMSELF BOTH FINANCIALLY AND IN THE COACHING(BASEBALL) PROFESSION ????? ONLY THE MAJOR LEAGUE WOULD BE A STEPPING STONE, AND I AM NOT REAL POSITIVE ABOUT THAT !

Mississippi State, Ole Miss and LSU all had a huge drop off the following year after winning the CWS.

Vitello and staff have bucked the trend.

Impressive that the Vols
lost all these players and are still a top 4 team in the toughest conference in the country.

-Christian Moore
-Blake Burke
-Dylan Dreiling
-Kavares Tears
-Billy Amick
-Cal Stark
-Zander Sechrist
-AJ Causey
-Drew Beam
-Kirby Connell
-Aaron Combs
-Chris Stamos
Absolutely. It’s like an all-star team. For some perspective regarding freshmen and playing time: Super freshmen CMO and Burke were platooning off and on at DH their freshmen years. Both ended up with around 100 at bats, hit over .300, and has 10 and 14 HRs respectively. Dreiling barely saw the field, Tears was redshirted, Beam was in the rotation immediately. Kirby only pitched 5.2 innings but it was the 2020 COVID shortened season. Zander only pitched 9.1 innings The rest spent their freshmen seasons at other schools. Many of those guys are going to have long MLB careers or coaching careers in NCAA.

Only one individual has ever went from a Head Coach of a College Baseball team straight to Manager of a MLB team. Probably never happens again..

Unless the MLB is a dream destination for him I don't know why he would want it. He already makes more money than half of MLB managers and the MLB season is nearly 3 times as long

I’m saying it will either be Alabama or Kentucky head coach. But Vitello is at the top of their list.

Tony is probably going to be on the top of every list every offseason until the end of time. It’s the cross to bear for being successful. Most programs still don’t see Tennessee as a serious baseball school and think they can simply poach him whenever they want. They’ll try and we’ll just have to hope every year our admin is ready to keep him.

Besides money, what are some other factors that could lure CTV away?

I’m not sure, mostly because I don’t know what Vitello values. So, it’s hard to judge. I think Tennessee offers everything you could want other than a high capacity stadium (which I think would be low on Tony’s list of desires).

I would say fan support from a “baseball school” because occasionally it does seem like Tony still gets mad at some of our fans for doing stupid stuff, but then I look around the country and I see stupid stuff happening everywhere and I think it’s probably not that different anywhere else he’d go.

Some factors keeping CTV at UT:

1) he loves it here
2) admin is fully supporting baseball evidenced by $100M in stadium renovations and making CTV highest paid coach in NCAA baseball
3) CTV had input on stadium renovations and design
4) fan support and big donor support has been stellar
5) he’s transformed UT to a baseball powerhouse
6) president of UT is a huge baseball fan; AD knows how important CTV is to UT and gives him 100% support.

Said it the other day, but Yankees fans booed Aaron judge in the playoffs. Everyone’s got that problem. I keep my complaining cordoned off here when I do it. I have no idea how people have the audacity to do it live in the stadium

I keep my complaining to an internal scream and some occasional outbursts of frustration on this board. Agree that anyone openly making themselves look like a jackass at Lindsey Nelson is stupid.

My read is that TV values loyalty as well as many other values that are strong at UT. I think my only fear is if he were to get pissed off at our program or fans or whatever to the point he'd want to take off, but I can't say I'm worried about it.

I could see that if revenue sharing dries funds up for the baseball program. @taylorvol knows more about what’ll actually happen with that than I, but I just remember McKee and Swain saying tony could leave if football gets everything while he gets nothing.

As for fans, idk how they could piss him off enough to leave. Maybe if he has a bad year, not 2023 bad but actually bad, and people stop showing up. That’s very possible, but I think he’s built up enough belief in most fans that the program wouldn’t go back to the 2 cans of soup for free entry days that fast.

Before anyone takes what I mean the wrong way, I probably should’ve blue font the 23 part lol. I meant that tongue in cheek to fans asinine expectations currently

1) lack of administrative support
2) conflict with a narcissistic AD (see TX A&M)
3) wanting a new challenge
4) fan apathy
Fan apathy shouldn't happen for a long, long time.... but if it happens sooner then it just proves we're a spoiled, entitled bunch (I'd love for Tony to stay 25+ years and be our Augie Garrido and eventually get a statue + stadium/field named after him)

Also, 1 and 2 ain't happening so long as ADDW is here, so all the people who piss and moan about him better be careful what they wish for, because our HCs in every sport love him and would follow him anywhere

The only SEC school I’m concerned about is Mizzou. I don’t know what the contract situation is there, but they will come calling at some point.

They had their chance. I understand that returning to the team that you played for is compelling, but when they rejected you (the year before you were hired elsewhere), that would seem to change things quite a bit, especially for an intense competitor. I can think of one such person who fits that description.
