Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The knock on Sampson is he’s good at a lot but has no elite qualities. Benefitted statistically by being the bell cow in a run friendly offense against light boxes.

Coming back another year doesn’t help him imo.

2 years of being the bell cow would have shown durability at least.

Only a few RBs taken ahead of him didn't have at least 2 years as the feature back.

Bhayshul Tuten, VA Tech... but he had the best combine of the RBs 4.32, 40.5" vertical
Kaleb Johnson, Iowa... 6'1" 224lbs and Big 10 Bias (exist big time for RBs)
Trevor Etienne, Georgia... honestly not sure why he was taken so high...good combine though and ran 4.42 and 3 years of SEC experience

Rest of the backs snagged ahead of Dylan had 2 seasons or more with at least 150 carries.

Cooper Mays is just done with football? So weird

Insane Bru hasn't been signed yet. Super injury prone, but still...
Not a knock on those guys but shows you the difference between us and the teams we were competing with in the playoffs. Can either take it as a testament to our coaching we've been so successful or a detriment on our ability to land elite talent.

Agreed. Although I think having a bad case if fumbilitis hurt him a lot too. You can't fumble the ball with that sort of frequency in the NFL and keep a job.

Is 5 fumbles for 422 carries really a lot though? I mean a few of the higher picks had far less and more carries so maybe that's part of it.

Sampson also lacks the receiving chops of players drafted ahead of him. Maybe that's unfair because of how he was used rather than a true lack of ability. But scouts want to see that.

Peaygolf rant……

“Outcast” in the Rock & Roll HOF?????
Put Pete Rose and Barry Bonds in the NASCAR HOF…….that works.
It’s not f’ing Rock&Roll……..
It would be more akin to putting Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson in the Baseball HOF because they were legends in their sport but occasionally dipped in the other.

Wow there are more rappers in the RnR HOF than I thought:

2009: Run-DMC
2012: Beastie Boys
2013: Public Enemy
2016: N.W.A.
2017: Tupac Shakur
2020: Notorious B.I.G.
2021: Jay-Z
2021: LL Cool J
2021: Gil Scott-Heron
2022: Eminem
2023: Missy Elliott
2023: DJ Kool Herc
2024: A Tribe Called Quest
2025: Outkast

I can understand Run DMC because of Walk This Way and how significant that was for both genres.
I can understand Beastie Boys because they did walk that line between both genres.
I can understand Public Enemy. And if you're going to have PE you probably have to have NWA.
Which would lead to 2Pac. And if you're gonna have 2Pac you have to have BIG.
Which leads to BIG's natural successor, Jay-Z.

After that it kind of goes off the rails.

Sure it could, but opening a restaurant is almost never a good idea. Hopefully he can get the right
management in there.

Otherwise, restaurants are a mess.
problem with restaurants is everyone wants to one, no one wants to run them.

food costs, labor, location, competition.

If you can dial it in, Rocks , Burger Barrel, any restaurant in asheville. you can do well.

Most profitable restaurant to run is a Pizza Place. Low cost and low labor cost...

If I was 20 years younger I would open a Pizzeria. Myself and 2 others could run the joint.

lots of competition. i would want a nice college town, build it nearby. blacksburg, rosnoke.

always loved asheville brewing company. pizza with bowling alley, and retro arcade.

i don't smoke weed so, kinda hard to justify being around one 24/7

My son asked me a couple of weeks ago if I would help him open a Club. I told him that's a big headache that I don't think you want to take on. Finding a honest Bar Manager and Honest Bartender is hard to find...
