Trade Wars and Tariffs

Believe that if it makes you feel better.

I supposed you also believe that Trump is telling the truth that he's going to cut/eliminate income taxes for people earning under $200,000 because China will pay them for you.
Just pointing out that there are negotiations going on..despite your gnashing of teeth.
To your second point, not that I agree with Trump, but I suppose one could believe men can get pregnant

I don't understand why everything has to be binary. I can disagree with some approaches of this administration and not favor the CCP. I could also disagree with some of the approaches of the Biden admin and not be 100% MAGA. Reality is actually nuanced and not colored the way the internet depicts it.

Bessent to brief press tomorrow. I bet they announce a deal with Japan/India. Additionally, I bet some kind of peace deal is announced this week with Russia/Ukraine. Hard to argue negatively if either of these come to fruition.

Bonanza you say?

How appropos.

I am not trying to be mean but pointing out a bankruptcy from 2008 of so obscure restaurant with the same name is a massive reach.

Even though I stand to benefit from Trump's tariff replacement of income taxes, I prefer that we take any excess from tariffs and put it against our National Debt to pay principle on the debt instead. We need to balance our budget, something that hasn't happened since the 1990s.

Since this sparked the conversation:

The tariff deal/income subject doesn't have to be binary either, seeing how (a) there will be multiple deals across nations, and (b) any of those deals may entail tariffs.

The above posed a fallacious excluded middle as choice.

Are you sure? What is the goal of these negotiations? What is the plan?

I’ll be thrilled if the national debt would just stop growing. Freeze it here (or at least establish a cap a few trillion more than where it is today) as long as the economy grows to make it a smaller percentage relative to the GNP and GDP.

Let's all make a deal. One only posts what one is sure of, as opposed to making accusations/defenses based on assumptions or unproven reports.

Also, you can start first to lead from the front.

I’d reckon a huge goal is making trade more equitable with China. We’re buying almost $600 billion/year from them while they’re buying about $150 billion from us. While they cheat, lie, steal, want to wreck our economy, and are generally just being a-holes. We’ve been financing their growth and they are not good partners on most issues. Eff the CCP.

They're also posturing to bully surrounding nations into real war, so I suspect a big part of this is to either weaken the regime, bully them back into being a good global neighbor, or a combination of the two. And let's face it, escalating a trade war is a lot better first step than escalating a real war.

(Reports I've seen seem to indicate that it's working, as far as weakening the regime.)

And claiming the South China Sea. They want to control the direct passage to/from SK, Japan, etc. and the Middle East/Indian Ocean and beyond. Trump is 100% right threatening with a military response if they try to control Panama and Greenland. That’s different than “invading” those places like the leftists are characterizing it.

Destroying them economically is a better end game than blowing **** up defending Taiwan.

They’re scoundrels. We need to end them same as the USSR. Maybe it would be easier to cooperate if Xi was gone. No telling what would replace him though.

That's incredibly vague to the point that it is meaningless. What are the details of the plan?

We buy more from them because we are a wealthy service economy, and they are the world's biggest manufacturer. I can't believe how fkn stupid we are.

You gonna take an assembly line job, bro? Somebody's gotta do it (now).

I don't even know what you're trying to say? I asked him questions about the negotiations he mentioned.

You chronically post screen prints of tweets that are swiftly proven wrong. You are at the forefront of those on VN that shouldn't retort with demands for surety.

So, what I fairly clearly said was that if that is the standard you want before we can have debates, tend your own garden and develop an interest in truth.

As long as you get your cheap ****, you're good.

Yes, we have been absolutely stupid for decades by financing our biggest adversary with our dollars. The goal is to drive manufacturing out of China and into more friendly nations and of course some back to CONUS and to stop financing China's military.

So how does Trump cut/eliminate the income tax if manufacturing moves to countries that aren't tariffed as much as china?

Are we then going to increase the tariffs on those countries where we've driven Chinese manufacturing to compensate?
