Recruiting Football Talk VIII

It baffles me how many RBs are being taken before Dylan. I'm starting to wonder if this is why we are struggling to recruit. Are skill guys seeing we can't get guys drafted? He was the SEC POTY. I guarantee if he played for Bama, Georgia, or Texas, he would have been drafted 1st or 2nd round at worst. Was his injury worse than we knew?

Staff took a guy that hasn’t been drafted yet and made him SEC POY. Seems pretty good to me.

All these RBs were ranked ahead of Sampson in pre-draft rankings.

Sorry for posting late. Prayers for anyone dealing with grief.

April 26, 2025: Separate yourself from the grief you bear. You continue to tolerate the pain and sorrow for what you have lost, and it is time to look to a new day in which you can find peace and joy again. That is not to belittle the emotional pain you have endured, but to deliberately reach beyond it until you find a place of serenity. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Skatteboo to Giants...still no Sampson.

Sampson is undersized. His draft grade wasn't that high because there are questions about his size and ability to keep the ball from getting knocked out by defenders and pass catching. I remember one analyst saying he was all over the place in terms of how teams looked at him. I'm not sure that he could've done much more here but having ball security issues in your final season is never good. Just ask Arian Foster.

Having played a LOT of baseball, specifically a lot of 3rd base...they really weren't.

> a simple, or expected play that a player is supposed to make without any difficulty

A play made nearly on the edge of the infield where you have to speed up your internal clock and absolutely laser the ball across the field to barely catch the runner and a tough in between hop on a sharply hit ground ball are not "literally routine". Both of those plays, while certainly not impossible or even significantly difficult involved slight difficulty above what would be considered standard. None of this changes the fact that a D1 level 3rd baseman should have made both plays without much difficulty and we should have been able to play through and around both mistakes.

Regardless, really frustrating sequence. Can't keep doing this stuff and expect to have success in the postseason and that was absolutely a postseason atmosphere.
To me he gets 1 of those and we still win.

Belitnikoff winner who fell to the third round and has been a non factor in the league?

That’s what you want to point to?

Yes. Because that's still a 1st round pick and that's what ultimately matters. Hyatt wasn't known to anyone outside of Tenn fans before Heupel. But Hyatt isn't the only offensive player/offensive guy in the NFL. If our coaches can't defeat negative talk they need to hire a recruiter who can because it's easy to sell the success we've had.
