“But I got to stop wishin', got to go fishin' Down to rock bottom again Just a few friends, just a few friends” (pictures)

My buddy wanted to do an offshore charter while he's in town this weekend so we're going out of St. Augustine Saturday. I know grouper isn't open yet so I imagine we'll mostly be targeting Snapper and triggers. Cobia and Mahi if we get lucky.
My dad has been catching alot of Africa Pompano. Last time I went with him we caught 5 but had to throw 3 back as you're only allowed to keep 2 per boat. Until last summer I had only heard of them and knew very little. They're suitable for and make very good sashimi.

You may be familiar with them but if not, there ya go. Lol. Have fun and good luck.

I'm familiar with them in the sense that I know what they are but I've never caught one and wasn't sure how common they were out of St. Augustine but it would be cool to mark that one off the bucket list.

I’m familiar with “pompano.” I don’t get the “African” distinction.
Compared to what most of us think of in terms of pompano, African pompano are a little blueish, they're significantly bigger, they are often caught with minnows, they are most commonly found offshore (reefs or wrecks).

I mean they're jacks, so they have similar characteristics and appearances sometimes.

If you Google juvenile African pompano, you can see a pretty significant difference in terms of the fins.

There's also a species called "Permit."

@MercyPercy You ever caught a permit on surf or pier down therruh? And have you ever known somebody to think they got a MONSTER pomp and ended up cleaning and eating a dirty bar jack? hahahahahahahahahaha

I caught a small permit off one of the fishing bridges down south years ago but nothing of size. I haven't done a ton of fishing in the south Florida area in general but sometime I'm just going to have to take a week off of work and drive down there and do a bunch of fishing that I can't do up here.

God willing, gonna head up to Kentucky to spend a couple of hours with my parents, then head over to Tennessee to crappie fish a little while tomorrow evening with him and my buddy. Gotta head back to Georgia afterwards though.

you headed to Cherokee?

Norris, probably down towards lafollette
I jumped at the dropzone that used to be at LaFollette’s little airfield. There weren’t any outs. The cemetery next door was an ominous warning - make it back or else. On final, one had to negotiate around a radio tower and deal with a ditch in the middle of the main landing area. Liked the DZOs and the fun jumpers there.

Looks like the charter tomorrow probably isn't happening. Captain called and said weather not looking good for offshore. Would take us in the Intracoastal but my friends aren't as excited about that (especially considering the price would remain the same- that one is a bit of a head scratcher to me).

Reschedule?

Reschedule?

Don't know when my buddy will be in town next. I don't really go out of my way very often to pay people to take me fishing (no hate lol) so I'm not too torn up about it but it is a bit of a shame. We'll probably try again next time he's in town.

Just going to have to continue my hunt for pompano in the surf instead lol

7 king macks hit the deck of the Ocean Crest Pier on Oak Island yesterday.
Likely the biggest single day since the fookin Omega3 people destroyed any menhaden possession by recreational anglers.
You dam right I'm triggert AF and have been for a long time about the Omega3 bullchit. Omega3 can EABODAS.
Dey havin to use baby bluefish and whiting on the pin rigs on OCP.
Dunno if dey still sell Menhaden milk for chumming or even if the law lets you milk that pogy teat if you get ahold of one.
Edit: dey still sell Menhaden milk

What is involved in scoping the ramp and for what reasons is it done?
We've never been here, and there's not a dock at the ramp. Was finding a spot to pull up to get out later, where it wouldn't hurt the boat. We've fished this lake, but just in a new area tonight
