2025 Transfer Portal Thread

If Tennessee gets Adams, do you think they might simply back off everyone else and wait to see what happens with Gainey? I could see them doing that unless someone just dropped into their lap at a good price.

I don’t see how you can take that risk, there’s likely nobody left when Gainey finds out his fate, if it breaks against you then you’re screwed

Its not ideal, but you would have Adams, Boswell, and Evans at that position. Gainey would make it four. I'm not saying I am against adding another experienced player, but I don't think it is healthy to have a log-jam at the position, and I don't think coach Barnes wants that either.

I am also of the opinion that there is a greater chance that folks get another year than many on here believe. Otherwise, why would so many put themselves in the portal after their eligibility had expired?

I’m sure Gainey understands that Barnes cannot wait around for his situation to become clear. We have to build the roster like Gainey won’t be here. If he does get cleared, and we add an additional 2-guard from the portal, Gainey will just have to be okay with some possibly reduced minutes. I mean in general he shouldn’t even be getting a 5th year so there has to be a bit of comprise on his part. Luckily, his dad is on staff so the situation just makes sense for him regardless of play time.

Seems like the brunt of NIL is coming from lobbying big money boosters, at this juncture. Like SF said, Ament’s money was essentially financed from a separate group of people (or person), outside of our normal NIL budget. Hoops at a lot of places this offseason, to me at least, seems to be being funded from mostly lobbying big money people on the need for specific players and/or windows of success with a coach or group of players.
No doubt. I read a story a week ago about how the Duke elitist alumni have had a side gig going for a few years that has been totally independent of their NIL collective. That is one reason I was surprised we got Ament over Duke. Apparently quite a few ultra-wealthy individuals who are primed to keep Duke funded during this era.

How does this happen if true? Why would Ky have so much more to spend on their roster than everyone else. Seems unfair imo.
They don't go past sweet 16 yet they get rewarded more money to buy a final 4? Why. I'd assume the final schools like Florida & Houston would have more to spend, even Duke + Auburn. And yes us the national college town of the year.

This number isn’t accurate at all

That’s 2 freshman and a sophomore that hardly played, I don’t think the staff would want that

Because what’s their other option, it’s a no lose.

Would be utterly foolish to play the " wait and see what happens" with Gainey game. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.
It's a big risk to even leave a spot for him but you can probably take that risk if you at least have someone half-way proven that could play his role if he doesn't get another year.
Which is more likely than not at this point.

Right now no one on earth has an accurate read on whether the rule will pass or whether it will apply to this class. Barnes is not waiting. Correct. The key is that they will get clues much sooner than the final ruling. Many think they’ll know the trend in under three weeks. That may be what makes it possible to keep a player or two.
