Tennessee Softball 2025

Watched the game but haven't read through all the game thread. This may have been discussed already. The thing I didn't understand about the 3 run error was why she didn't throw home? Nugent had her foot on the plate ready for the ball. Pickens had the ball in her hand with the runner more than 20 feet from home. She wouldn't have needed to turn her body to throw home like she did to first and it would have been a shorter and easier throw, with no base runner in the way. The replay is still on ESPN. Have a look. I guess just the heat of the moment

In hindsight the throw home was the best option but you have about a half a second to decide what to do in that situation. Just like the OF catching the foul ball that was deep enough for the runner on 3rd to tag. In that situation with a foul ball you let that drop and take your chances on the next pitch but as an OF your 1st thought is to catch it.

Not an SEC loss so nothing hurt.

Time for a change of subject. I'm not one to question Karen Weekly's every move. But I do wonder at establishing Emma Clarke as the everyday DP. Not that she's bad, and she does have some power. But she's hitting .226. Rodriguez is hitting .341, and we mostly use her as a pinch hitter. Alannah Leach is hitting .318. Presumably, her skills are similar to her sister's (which are pretty good). Katie Taylor is hitting .267. Again, she pinch-runs and pinch hits occasionally. Even Bella Faw is hitting .226. One would think that the lower third would be more productive with someone else.

Can someone with more softball experience explain the advantages of Emma Clarke as starting DP?

Roster cleansing.

It is because Karen values Rah Rah and cheering over statistics and ability.

Base runner on 2nd with 1 out running on a fly to center… and not going half way, Rec ball stuff… That is as much Karens fault for not communicating as it is Ella’s for getting doubled up. If she communicated and Ella ran anyway, bench time.

If you morons want to call me a hater, get in line. Reality is unpleasant.

There’s no holding players accountable for mistakes on this team so Ella will make the same mistake again.

I am not sure of all of this but it appears to be the case with ELLA. No better team mate but a little skit so! She lets her emotions get the better of her. Cant really understand why she had head down like she did not see where the ball was hit. I hate it for her and i would bet Karen keeps her at se cond. She is the best option in my opinion.

Our baserunning has been terrible all year. Errors have cost us half the games we've lost. Some of the mistakes are just shocking mental mistakes. Ella made the mental mistake of the season running full speed on a liner to center with Pannell next to hit. Not a game that is going to hurt us much. We need to get it together for this last six SEC games.

Dodge was almost doubled up prior on the Leach bunt pop up. 1B coach sanders is pointing to 2B as if she missed the out too. Didn’t look as though she was trying to get Ella in a rundown, but that she missed the out herself. Sanders recently got Emma out at first with the throw in from RF after she got a single and took a not necessary turn. Players should know and coaches should be paying attention at all times.

I know she had to move on for personal reasons, but I can’t help but think Brockenbrough showed last night she is missed with her bat and fielding/arm.

Always loved her dont know the personal problems that you speak of. I know she was happy to make a stand.

The sac fly should have been let go. The bigger crime was catching the ball flat footed when there was time to get behind it. Just of night of poor fundamentals and lack of adjustments at the plate. The work load may be catching up to Karlyn, there is no need to try and showcase in these games since she has been pitcher of the week numerous times and is a lock to be an AA.

Frankly I'm just shocked that we could have bad coaching and players not good enough for our division and still be voted #1 near the end of the season. Could it be that the posters who constantly trash our team personnel actually know nothing about the game or how it should be played? It's laughable how stupid can turn on you when facts are presented.

Base running overall has been bad for years and the worst offenders are our pinch runners

These young ladies have been taught how to run bases for 9+ years and they still make mistakes. That line drive to center field was just a tough luck kinda play. If the ball had hit the ground and scooped could have got the lead runner at third base or if they get the runner going to 2nd we would have runners at 1st and 3rd. IT was a really well hit ball and played perfectly by the center fielder . That's just part of the bad luck you get in softball and baseball.

Big difference between being ranked a few days at #1 and finishing #1. The pollyanna approach works for some and not so much for others.

It’s was a routine line drive right at the centerfield, the bad luck was the stupid base running. And she had no clue of what was going on with Gabby’s at bat either. And it’s not the only time shes done it. Watch Fiedlers expression, doesn’t look like she thinks it’s just bad luck either. Errors and mistakes happen but not having a smart softball IQ as player in the SEC is unacceptable at this level.

Reading this just explained your lack of knowledge of the game. You actually thought they were a #1 team. Jokes on you, a team that is 2nd to last in there own conference in hitting isn’t a number #1 team, we’re not even 1st in our own conference. We are a good top 10 team and depending on the day a top 5 team but not the #1 team. At some point you got to hit and Pickens has hidden the teams flaws at times.

I would bench Ella even if for one game. I can let it go if someone does something once but this is the second time she has cost us doing the same thing. Let Bella start at second and I would give Rodriguez a chance at DP. Like I said even one game and it’s sends a better message than letting a player have no repercussions for making the same mistake on the bases over and over again. But I’m also not a coach that’s just me as a frustrated fan so it’s not worth much.
