Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2025-26

6 ft 6 inch Madina Okot is a gamecock!!!!!

SEC #1 in field goal % ( based on minutes played ), #1 in rebounding %, 2nd defensively and averaging a double double Okot is what SC has been missing. She'll be doubled up a lot which should free up shooters something that didn't happen enough this year. Cardoso's rebounding covered up SC's errant shots and hopefully we get some of that from Okot. SC lost to UConn because they struggled to score points. With Latson that should improve and if by chance we get Kneepkens the heavens will have parted.

After a big win Spurrier used to say "God smiled on the gamecocks today". And after the two portal transfers of Latson and Okot we can say the same.

Poultry, with the roster you'll have next season, you shouldn't lose a single game, and any win by a margin of less than 25 should probably result in Dawn getting mercilessly dragged on social media.
I don't think many of our fans were disappointed not winning a national championship this year. We probably went about as far as our talent could take us. We were out rebounded by many teams and had no dominant center which is usually the cornerstone of Dawn's system. I think years of consecutive titles are a thing of the past due to portal transfers which allows teams like TCU to go from last in their conference to first in a single year. We need to lower our expectations as the new definition of a dynasty might be winning a championship once every few years.

We dearly love Lay especially here in Columbia where we've followed her since 7th grade. Most of us would hate to see her in an LSU uniform ( she supposiedly reached out to them ) and how embarrassing it would be for her to be boo'ed in her own hometown. But the truth of the matter is that no player is bigger than the program.

"I don't think many of our fans were disappointed not winning a natty" @ Poultrygeist.....

Good lord, did you type/say that with a straight face? Any fan not "disappointed" would be lying. How many top ranked players does it take for ole Dawn Staley? She only had 12 or so. :(

Hey, I wasn't disappointed when the Meeks lost to Duke in the Elite 8 and missed a 4th straight natty for Kellie and Chamique were you?

I detested Gail Gastenkors for a couple of decades for other reasons I'm sure.

I secretly kind of hate/admired her bc in an interview after the game the guy congratulated her "on your huge upset" and GG cold as ice says "First of all, we don't consider it an upset." Burnnnnn

And yet here you are as well....
Give it awhile, let it percolate some and I am sure it will all make sense to you in time. I enter this thread to either read or post on non-Lady Vol topics. The question unanswered is why are you here?

Well from here on out I will never know when you're in here with your South Carolina clique.

Wasn’t sure where to put this one, but I just saw that longtime ESPN broadcaster Mike Patrick has passed. He called many of our great Lady Vol Final Four basketball games and championship moments alongside Ann Meyers Drysdale and Doris Burke. I still watch them from time to time. Some of the greatest games and moments in Lady Vol history. Absolutely some of my happiest sports moments. Rest in peace Mike and thank you for the memories.

He was always great, may he rest in peace.

He was a West Virginian just like Coach Caldwell, only about and hour from where she was from.

If MF gets booed in her hometown, yall knowing the situation and the parental pressure and her being torn, the embarrassment is on ya'll not her.
Of course it would be on the hometown fans if they boo her. Hope it doesn't happen but it wouldn't surprise me if she ends up at LSU and plays at CLA.
There's lots of bad blood between SC and LSU.

Fans are more likely to be disappointed when they are favored to win yet lose. The early loss of Watkins our best defensive player, shot blocker and top rebounder made another championship a dim possibility. After the streaks were broken in a not so close game at UCLA and a blow out loss to UConn at CLA followed by near defeats at the hands of Md. and Duke reality seemed to set in. As I said earlier our ladies went about as far as their talent could take them. As a result fans focused more on the accomplishments of this class rather than the results of their last game. Those accomplishments included two national championships, four final fours and a bunch of SEC championships. If you consider the class of 2025's body of work disappointment just doesn't fit the narrative.

Dim possibility? weak.... They made it to the natty champ game, and blew it big... total disappointing to all real USc fans.

This year was not a bust. We lost Watkins....Tac was and is still trying to come back from injury.....we had no real center presence....so the perimeter was going to make us or break us just like it did before Paopao came on board. It fell short as was expected in a few games. We could 'out talent' most teams but there were a few that were going to make us pay. I never thought even after the SEC tournament championship that we would survive the gauntlet to the title game. The fact that Tac (6'5") is another year down the road at rehab and Okot (6'6") signing, it's back to the dominant center position with a kick out to a 3 if they cram the box. Gianna Kneepkens would seal the deal, but we still have Tessa and Maddy plus the new girls Makeer and McDowell.

SC lost to a superior team twice by a significant margin and yet you think they blew it? Real fans understand that when the better team loses to a lesser team then it's appropriate to say "they blew it". I've lived in Columbia since I graduated from USC many years ago and I sense no disappointment in this city regarding our team. On the contrary fans are excited about our upcoming season as we are already projected as the number one team. Our real fans celebrate the accomplishments of the class of 2025 who won more games than any in our history. After signing Latson and Okot a segment on youtube sums it up in its title "We're Not Bitter We're Better".

tsk tsk...

it's a fight between semantics and pedantic... I still profess that south cackle fans were disappointed not winning the NC.
The anticipation of the resolution to charges against Watkins gave way to huge expectations for ‘25. Her injury definitely quelled those that closely follow their program. Disappointed? Sure. But there were circumstances that tempered that disappointment.

transferring into a team that is 10+ deep is a risk as top players who last year transferred to Texas and UCLA and were part-timers. Ole Miss duplicated the not philosophy of TCU by hiring (recruiting a whole new team). I know oil money for TCU but Ole Miss ? low attendence little interest. and the third winner was SC who just added yet again.

we don't have regulars from other schools other than SC and occasionally UConn,
so I'll mention Indiana U which lost their whole remaining team to the portal but have made progress from adding established "good" players based on previous years of success in the Big Ten, while recruiting players at another start-up Missouri, decades of being a bottom team is much difficult sell. And I also wonder how

as many knowledgeable boarders I read, (not those who can only comment that another team sucks) players want to win, and not endure a long season of losing, and they want time on the court, and NIL.

BYW the only team I care for in south carolina is Winthrop and am hoping Semeka can acquire players in the portal to remain competitive in her league.

@circumstances that tempered that dissappointment. What , did Popeyes chicken have a price drop in south cackleackey land?
