But you can't get into a bidding war and overpay for him. If Tulane and Wake want him for more than $1 million they can have him.

My take on it. If he's our starter we likely win 6-7 games next year. If that's the best QB we could get so be it, but I think Merk could get us to a similar result and get valuable reps.

I don't see the upside in bringing this guy in.

I don’t think he’s a terrible option. He’s seen tons of reps and the off year last year was due more to App State’s other issues than it was his playing ability. I think, given what’s currently available and the reality of the situation—not some pipe dream like a current starter—he’s the best option we got.

this is not bad for a realistic scenario

this is right down the middle average for a realistic scenario. him coming here would be as realistic as realistic could get.

we have to add a third QB for depth/competition. at the bare minimum he is an upper classman QB with experience and now a chip on his shoulder

he will assimilate to East TN life/culture because he was just living on the other side of the mountains

he's fine

I'd almost rather have the ND backup, but maybe there's more upside with this kid, who knows

He had a really good year and a bad year. Yes, that is probably the best we have available right now. Or you could take a young guy somewhere who hasn't played at all, which would make no sense given our roster and Brandon coming in. It's a bad situation, it is what it is.

I’ve learned pretty quickly there’s about 3, maybe 4, guys who I trust. Everyone else is full of 💩. And so far none of those 4 guys posted anything telling me it was Alt. In fact, they all pretty much said the same thing: “everyone is pretty tight lipped.”

I like the ND kid better as well, but I didn't think he fit our system......IMO.

I just liked that he seemed to be able to make the right read fast, and with our offense, the first read is the right read the majority of the time. so just know where the ball is supposed to go and get it there. didn't have to make the home run every play (Milton, Nico issue), just had to be consistent (Hooker)

at this point they're all kind of average guys, so it's not like any one of them would super excel or super fail in this offense.

I think they are making the connection because our collective has been testing the reception via agents/handles for all these other guys. That's step one, get the numbers right, or get them to a place where the player is receptive.

Then they hop in the portal so they can actually talk to the staff. They could still go back to where they are. Politics and whatnot, but they could elect to stay there after they talk to our staff.

But I think when people see players go in the portal, they know they're open to talking to staff now, which was the HUGE hurdle for us with all these current starting QBs

were it not for the high INT total, I think this would be a solid pick up. Still could be, if JH can get to work fast on him. One thing about all JH QBs at least in his tenure here is they don't throw a ton of INTs. Maybe this could work. I do know I would feel better just from the standpoint this kid has 2 full seasons of playing college Ball under his belt. We don't currently have that with anyone else on the roster.

Nah, not Nekos. Tennessee gave him the story on Nico to get ahead of the narrative. They are going to give him this story as well.

Right now it looks more likely it's Aguilar, considering Altmyer isn't even in the portal.
