'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

Hmm if Andy is saying something like that, it's because his connects/friends around the industry (in/around the other QBs we were rumored to be targeting) are letting him know that we aren't getting very far with guys like Altmyer
Exactly. Which is why this is the best option to go with.

I'm not trying to be a pessimist but let's face it, Tennessee swung and missed on all their prospects over the past week. I'm not for Aquilar coming to Tennessee but I think that's the best Tennessee will get at this time.
Hard to take away a lot from his App St highlights vs Clemson, but he didn't look particularly accurate even with the short routes. Suspect he'd be a backup for Merk with the hopes of RS Mac.

I have came to terms its going to be near impossible to get a starting power conference qb to come in, but Aguilar is not it even when you look at available options
our best option would have been to have 3-4 months to work on someone if Nico's camp had stuck to their guns in December and bolted then

more of the guys we are playing catch up on now may have been a bit more receptive

if nothing else, I think we could have got that D2 QB that Kiffin got

Beggars can't be choosers.

We got screwed over very late in the game. Not everyone else is for sale, and not many want to do to their team what Nico did to us...

Just a tough spot we've found ourselves in.

People didn't lose their minds for Hendon, though, and he was the answer to our prayers.

Maybe this staff needs another guy thrust upon them not by their choice.
A complete regression from 2023 to 2024 and didn't pass the eye test either. Some games he looked flat out uninterested in putting fourth an effort.

Dude they weren't remotely similar prospects. He was outside the top 200 prospects nationally.

I understand that rankings aren't the end all be all. But it at least gives you an indication on how the talent view their overall talent levels.
Not saying they are similar athletes, just saying in a sense Nico was still unproven at the college level havent been through an SEC schedule.

Honestly I would be fine with adding in Aguilar if it boils down to it and letting him compete with Merk and GMac. Bring in some weapons for them to work with and let the best man win.

then he comes in and gets beat out by Merk, who gains some confidence in battling for his spot

We are very removed from "best case scenario" for the 2025 football season, just gonna have to roll with the punches and maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised

Like I said I moved past best case scenario. This is bad for a realistic scenario.

How? It’ll create a QB competition, which is honestly always a good thing to have in terms of motivation, and it’s not like Merk anticipated starting this upcoming season before two weeks ago.
If he's not the best guy and doesn't win the job, he's burned a year and won't be happy.

On top of that the guy isn't very good. Just get another lower tier option.

My take on it. If he's our starter we likely win 6-7 games next year. If that's the best QB we could get so be it, but I think Merk could get us to a similar result and get valuable reps.

I don't see the upside in bringing this guy in.

If it’s Aguilar he will be better than everyone in this thread is saying. You can believe I’ll bump this.
I’m with you. I said the other day, Hell it may have even been this morning, that Alt wasn’t coming here and Heupel is gonna wait and see if Aguilar enters. It’s the best case scenario based on reality and where we currently are in terms of timing.

Exactly. We tried. Nobody good wanted to screw over their team AND try to learn a new offense in one summer. I don't blame any of them, I would not do it either.
