'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

Heuepel needs to be more aggressive in portal. This roster needs a lot of work. Add some of these players.
Why do you think it needs a lot of work? We have recruited pretty well across the board.

I get we don’t have a top 5 roster but are not far off. The recruiting floor under Heupel has been good. I really don’t understand this narrative because by all means we have the most talent we have seen in Knoxville in a long time.

The problem is, being a top 10 class nationally is still usually good for about 8th out of 16 teams in the conference.

I don’t think people realize we are landing some of these classes because our collective is really good and not with recruiting. Mostly recurring to the offensive side. I doubt we have much of the talent on the offensive side without it. Big reason we have such depth on defense is the coaching and recruiting on that side. Heup needs to adapt and make some changes on the offensive side but I doubt that happens. We have overpaid for some players on that side for lack of recruiting. Love Heup but every coach has to make changes and hard decisions eventually.

This just shows maybe getting HS QB's is not the way to go. Go get guys in the portal after they have shown something. Soon it could be like baseball and a little bit we are seeing from basketball, not as many freshman right out of HS in the future.
This is the new formula unless you’re a mid tier P4 program or you land a freshman that is truly next level elite and maybe willing to sit a year before taking the reins (Lagway, Arch, Beck). Otherwise look at the recent success of Ohio State (Howard transferred in), Oregon (Gabriel transferred in), ASU (Leavitt transferred in), ND (Leonard transferred in).

To his point, maybe improve recruiting a bit more and you’ll finally win the conference…
I'm not disputing that. I would love to add more highly ranked players. I just don't believe the program is going to crash and burn every time the often unrealistic expectations of some people aren't met, with either the players we land or the timing with which we land players. That's not aimed specifically at him, just just the general sense of doom and gloom around here at times. If you read this board, you would get the sense our program is doing all it can just to keep its head above water in this conference.
