I hope if we get Aguilar that we pay him the 1.3 that UCLA was giving him. Itās still a WAY better deal for him and we can go after receivers and DTs.It would be pretty wild if we pay a guy as much as Nico, said guy leads us to 10 wins or more and a top 3 round draft pick. Meanwhile Nico takes a $1M hit before taxes, goes 5-7, is a middle of the pack Big10 QB and doesnāt get drafted
Taking that kid and just giving him a chance to win the starting job will have the entire country rooting for us (for once). Itās like in HS when you find out your girlfriend cheated with some girls boyfriend so you start dating that girl instead lolI hope if we get Aguilar that we pay him the 1.3 that UCLA was giving him. Me either buddy. And it definitely wasnāt a guy in our church youth group.Taking that kid and just giving him a chance to win the starting job will have the entire country rooting for us (for once). .. not that Iād know anything about that
Lot of ifs and butsHe knows the system way better than anyone coming out of the portal will. This isnāt a pivotal season for Heupel. This is a mulligan season. He had his starting QB leave at the worst time. Also, you donāt think Merk has earned the trust of the team? How do you know an experienced guy in the portal is just gonna come in learn the system, earn the respect of the team, unify the locker room and be able to operate the offense at a high level?
Now letās say you get a good QB out of the portal and he wins the starting job. And Merk leaves. Then what? What if the portal QB gets hurt and Merk is gone? What if Merk leaves and some others feel like Heupel did Merk dirty and leave? What if Brandon sees this move and doesnāt like it? Some of you are not looking at the potential catastrophic situation we could be in. Yeah those are hypothetical situations but worth considering imo.
With their budget, sure. But if ours is around $14M as reported and you split it evenly on both sides of the ball, they you've got $7M for the offense. If the QB is getting $2M-4M, then you've only got $3M-5M for the rest of the offense. If you spend $2M of that on a WR, your OL and/or RB depth isn't going to be very talented.I'd say those tOSU ones are....

I think fans know this year is going to be a step back. What Nico did really stuck it to Heupel and this program. I think he gets a pass next season. Just beat the teams you're supposed to and make a bowl game. Having said that, I think Heupel has some hard decisions to make if he's going to remain as the head coach here, and I think it starts with his staff. If he stands pat with the staff, I think it will cost him his job sooner rather than later. They have some weak on the field coaches, and I'm seriously concerned about our evals at several positions. Next year is just one season, and I've seen a lot of "those" type seasons in 7 decades. No need to make stupid, costly decisions based on a single event/year.
What he did last year, even in garbage time, is impressive and consistent. I like to think upper half of the SEC vs bottom half of the big 10 could do wonders for his playmaking ability. If itās not becky/robertson/altmyer, I hope itās him. He'd be right below Byrum Brown with a similar profile. His accuracy actually grades out very, very nicely but his avoid sack and negative play rates are... not very good.
That said, he was a true sophomore this year so there's plenty of room to improve. Lots of potential for sure.
