Recruiting Football Talk VIII

very very quiet on there

Hubbs maintains that many QBs will use us for a raise and we will end up getting a depth guy most likely.

hasn't been too confident in a splash hire. we had reached out to kick the tires on a few guys but it didn't really go anywhere for anyone that would be considered a big get.
🥴🤦🏼‍♂️

The main negotiations in December were actually about offense. It’s true but if TN didn’t do anything to make you feel better about it, then why the hell did you stay for Spring. I think it was just a horrible misplay by Nico’s camp. If he’d had left in December there would be more interest and he’d probably actually of landed in a good spot. But what I think happened is Nico actually wanted to be here, but his dad mostly freaked out that Nico didn’t put up heisman numbers as a freshman (lmao) so the December negations happen, dad says all is good knowing he’s gonna pull this spring “hostage” leverage play anways to at least try and get more money out of UT. Tennessee finds out and is rightfully pissed, leaks it and it blows up in Nics face. Now they’re just trying to claim it wasn’t about money because they know they’re gonna take a pay cut and there is a small ounce of truth in it. But now the problem is you’ve landed your son at a place where he truly isn’t going to have any help on offense and he is taking a pay cut. Womp womp.

I hate the pistol.

I agree with their camp that the Receivers were ass and the Line at times was pathetic. Certainly true, many pages of evidence on this board to support those two assessments. He hasn’t warranted 4 million a year though and that’s what they were pushing for

we got transfers in and the #1 OT 5 star recruit on the line. Now he gets to play at ucla where it’s been last chance u fbs edition. He will actually be running for his life with that o line. Wouldn’t surprise me if he’s hurt 4 games into the season. Have fun scoring less than 20 ppg. Career ruined.

That’s because he spent his Summer in California. If he had worked on timing with his receivers, none of that would have happened.
Really pisses me off.
Which really goes to the need to be very careful about who you bring to Tennessee. Yes, he was a five star. Yes, he was uber athletic. But in hindsite, it appears he was a terrible fit here, constanlty demanded concessions (I don't play the first year), and wasn't all in. Character matters.

Going the depth piece route is the smarter way to go, but only if they follow that up with players for other roles. If it’s a lackluster portal season along with a depth QB, I do think it’s fair to start being concerned about the fall.

There are a handful of schools that could have provided better weapons and O line. None of them would have met Nico's asking price because he would have been a downgrade to what they already have.

Also, it isn't the fault of everyone else that Nico can't read a defense and hit wide open receivers. We got to the playoffs because of run blocking, Sampson, and defense. Nico held us back if anything.

There is a chance he could have really broken out this year, but we will never know.
